Who remembers the old adage “Cast Not a Clout till May is out”?
The idea that we should keep on wearing winter clothes until the end of May. Of course you do. We do, too…
On that, ‘May’ was widely misunderstood (by us, too) to mean the month of May. It actually meant the May Tree (or Hawthorne Tree), which bloomed in early May. So, the adage urged us not to cast off winter clothes until early May rather than, say, June 1st.
Why are we trawling around in the attics of our mind for ancient adages? Because that advice, which our generation of Boomers grew up on, is completely at odds with the advice from Planet Fashion which urges us to cast aside our winter clothing and start rocking spring and even summer clothing, now.
While we think it is way too early to wear spring clothes, we don’t think it’s too soon to start thinking about them, or even to take a peek at what’s ahead, fashion-wise.
Indeed, Jan and Cyndy firmly believe that contemplating some gorgeous new spring purchases, definitely helps to make the horrible month of February a bit more bearable.
Like them, you could very sensibly wrap up warm. You may even wish to inject some new jumpers or cardis, warm hats or warm gloves into your current wardrobe, while at the same time start considering the spring items you will want to buy to update your wardrobe.
By the way, we feel sure that you like to shop when it suits you. Of course you do, and we certainly don’t want to rush you. BUT, we have a word of warning: if you have a spring holiday planned or a special occasion (maybe a wedding) coming up, do keep in mind that the most popular colours and sizes sell out fastest and first.
So if you are looking for that special outfit and you want the pick of the new-season collections, just don’t leave it too late.
