We love watching films (probably not the kind where comic-book heroes climb tall buildings or splat their enemies with futuristic weaponry) but films with a bit of heart.
And as well as loving watching films we also love, love, love watching the Oscars. Watching the Oscars on NOW TV Sky Cinema is the next best thing to being there – you can watch it live with a 14 day free trial of the Sky Cinema Pass. We love the impossibly high-octane glamour and we love watching all those gorgeous frocks (and some not-so- gorgeous frocks) and analysing them (well, alright, pulling them apart) over snacks, wine and a tub of Haagen Dazs.
Oscar Night takes place this year on February 26th and will be hosted by the clever and very funny Jimmy Kimmel, from late-night US talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Luckily, as usual Oscar Night is a Sunday. We say ‘luckily,’ because for most of us, Sunday is not a working day, so we can spend the afternoon getting ready to watch, doing our fashion homework – seeing who’s worn what, when, and what we thought of it.
Then we can settle down in front of the TV with nibbles, cocktails and that tub of ice-cream or a slab of milk chocolate (and, naturally, some kale crisps and mineral water for health-fanatics like Jan)…
Up to now in the awards season, we have seen Best Actress nominees in some truly knockout frocks, including Natalie Portman (Jackie) in Prada, Ruth Negga (Loving) in Louis Vuitton and Emma Stone (La La Land) in Alexander McQueen.
We’ve also seen Best Supporting Actress nominees in some hot frocks, including Nicole Kidman (Lion) in Armani Prive, Viola Davis (Fences) in Jenny Packham and Naomie Harris (Moonlight) in Gucci.
Actresses we definitely expect to see on the Oscars Red Carpet, include Best Supporting Actress nominees Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea), Naomie Harris (Moonlight) and Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures), as well as Meryl Streep, nominated for Best Actress, whom we much admire.
It is her 20th Oscar nomination and it’s for the utterly charming, poignant and very funny Florence Foster Jenkins. As well as loving the film, which co-stars Hugh Grant, we love Meryl’s Oscar red carpet picks.
She has worn Lanvin several times (and who can blame her, Lanvin’s designers really knows how to cut a flattering gown) and she shocked the fashion crowd in 2015 with a maxi-length skirt-and-blazer ensemble, so we can’t wait to see what frock she’ll rock on the red carpet this year, along with all the others, on Feb 26.
Head over to our competition now and you could win 6 months of the NOW TV Sky Cinema Pass! Even if you don’t win, you’ll get a free 14 day trial – what’s to lose?!
