Have you been invited to a big, formal do, a ball, an after-wedding party, or some other black-tie event this summer?
Then we are guessing you may be having a problem finding a gorgeous dress with sleeves, especially an evening gown where sleeves don’t appear to be an afterthought.
Lovely over-50s ladies AKA GLOWS, we feel your pain. We know that at any time of year it is hard to find a drop-dead gorgeous evening dress with sleeves. But it is even harder to find one in summer, as all the brands (even our favourites) seem to assume we all want strappy and sleeveless as soon as the temperatures rise.
And just because we want sleeves, does not mean we want mumsy or frumpy… we want stunning, but stunning with sleeves.
So, lovely GLOWS, we have been doing what SoSensational does best, doing what it says on the tin (or, rather on our Home Page; we have found you “all the fashion in one place, edited for who you are now”.) In this case, all the stunning evening wear with sleeves.
Here are our top 21 evening dresses with sleeves, including one jumpsuit because a jumpsuit with sleeves could solve all your evening-wear issues as well as any dress could.
There are short ones (by which we mean knee-length) and long ones; lace ones and silk ones; printed ones and plain ones; colours that pop and subdued, understated colours. Some have quite short sleeves and some have quite long sleeves but every one of them is simply gorgeous. So, if you have a black-tie event this season and you want a party-frock that has sleeves to cover the tops of your arms, be very, very tempted…
Oh yes, we forgot: all have sleeves bar two which are sleeveless, but have matching shawls.
STYLE TIP:
We feel sure you know how to tie a wrap so it becomes sleeves (kind of) but in case not, here goes: this can be done alone if you are fairly flexible and dexterous, but is definitely easier if you have help.
Drape a long wrap loosely round your shoulders, allowing the two ends to hang down the front of your body; raise your arms then take hold (or get your helper to take hold) of the two pieces of hanging shawl; bring these under your arms and behind you and tie the ends loosely at the back. We suggest a soft double knot or even a bow if your shawl is long enough.
If your shawl is only long enough for the ends to just meet, pin the ends together with a few safety pins ensuring they are well-hidden. To be doubly sure, check that the back of the shawl (where it covers the top of your back and the back of your shoulders) is adjusted so that it covers the join.
Have you got a big black-tie event coming up?
