If you are anything like Jan and Cyndy you probably don’t need new swimwear.
After all, whether we wear a one-piece or a two-piece (bikini or tankini) we tend to wear it only a few times on holiday (we are talking resort swimmies, by the way, not the practical swimsuit we wear for our Aquarobics class or our 20-lengths in the local pool).
So, our resort swimwear is fine really. But do we always want to be sensible when there is such gorgeous swimwear around – and so much of it really cleverly cut (with even cleverer hidden panels) to ensure we look our very sleekest and most sensational.
To give you an example of what we mean, do you remember “Illusion” dresses, with their black or dark-colour side-panels either side of a light-coloured or print front panel which created the illusion of a thinner us? Well some genius swimwear designers have replicated the trick with swimwear and there are gorgeous Illusion swimsuits to make us appear thinner…
Innovations in technology also provide an excuse for buying some new swimwear. As well as those clever hidden panels which flatten the tummy and streamline the waist, there is chlorine-resistant fabric to ensure your gorgeous new swimsuit doesn’t fade with wear…
If you are between sizes (or even if you are not), consider buying your swimsuit in a size bigger because a too-tight swimsuit or bikini bottom (even if only slightly too-tight) will give you rolls of flesh where you don’t want them.
If your shape is a pear, try to balance out your silhouette by choosing a swimsuit or bikini with some boning and padding at the bust to enhance your curves.
Another tip for “pear-shapes” is to consider buying a bikini (high-waisted, of course). A bikini can be helpful because the tops and bottoms are mostly sold separately these days, allowing you to buy the optimum size for your top and bottom half.
Halter necks are good if you have broad shoulders. Ideally the halter straps should join to the swimsuit over the bust rather than at the outer edges close to the shoulders.
If you are an hour-glass shape, a sweetheart neckline is very flattering. Ideally choose one with detachable straps so you can go strapless when you are sunbathing, then reattach the straps for a beach stroll or cocktails at sundown.
If your shape is “busty” look for a wrap-front one-piece.
When choosing swimwear, don’t forget that colour still counts! The right colour for your skin-tone and hair will look even more gorgeous.
Always ensure your bust sits well inside the cups of your swimsuit or bikini, so you don’t end up with spaniel ears.
And when heading off to the sun, don’t forget you’ll need the most gorgeous and on-trend sunnies. You can find all your holiday needs in the Holiday Shop, here including more swimwear, cover-ups, beach bags and sun-hats.

[…] We think that when it comes to daytime cruise apparel, you know what to pack: if your cruise is calling mainly at cities, pack exactly what you would pack for a city-break trip. Or, if you are cruising in the Caribbean, pack pretty much what you would pack for a beach holiday. […]
