Sorry, I HATE Sarah Jessica Parker’s outfit!
To be entirely honest, we don’t strongly disagree with you. Our view is that, as a rule, SJP looks sensational, and pushes the style envelope for women of 50-plus, which is why she is one of our 50-Plus Style Icons; in that particular outfit, we don’t like her look quite so much. But it kind of demonstrates that occasionally even Style Icons get it wrong. Unlike the rest of us, they can’t just forget their mistake because someone snaps a photo that goes global, so the whole world knows! We just picked the wrong picture!
As a Personal Styling Consultant and Trainer I think that Sarah jp’s outfit reflects her experimental Style Personality. One of my students who has dominant Classic Style Personality hates her look. In my teaching I refer to ‘Sarah’s archetype as Creative. This is the type that dominates the world of design and Styling. The current trend in mixing, mismatching (stet) and layering is done very well by the Creative type and is anathema to the classic type who loves simple lines, symmetry and neutral colours. There is plenty of room in the world for both types plus the Dramatic, Romantic, Alluring and Natural archetypes. Variety is the spice of life.
Thanks for commenting. We agree with your belief that there’s plenty of room in the world for all types of style. SJP’s style is very distinctive and will be devotedly followed by some and rejected by some, while savvy stylistas will, as you suggest, borrow style elements from a variety of sources!
