Is It Okay To Wear The Same Outfit As My 20-Year-Old Daughter?
That was the question posed in a recent blog on the Huffington Post, on which SoSensational keeps an eye, as Jan regularly blogs for the Huffington Post.
Surely the more pertinent question is ‘Why Would You Want To Wear the Same Outfit As Your 20-Year-Old Daughter?’
Or at least, here at SoSensational Towers, where our stated mission and raison d’etre is to help all women over 50 to look totally fabulous, we think that is the more pertinent question.
In her blog, “Is It Okay To Wear The Same Outfit As My 20-Year-Old Daughter,” author, Dawn Cutler, is sounding off against ‘rules’ for older women. Well, Dawn, we’re with you on that.
At SoSensational, we certainly don’t impose rules. We do offer style advice for specific body issues, such as full bust, pears, or hourglass to flatten tums But we try never to say ‘You must…’ or ‘You must not…’. (Ok, we did draw the line on fishnet tights).
We also recognise that as a mature woman, we may want to wear same outfit as our 20-Year-Old daughter. We just think we would wear it in a slightly different way… We don’t know how old you are Dawn, but if you want to wear a short skirt at 50-plus, we say go right ahead if you’ve got great legs, and you ignore the fact that the midi skirt is far more on trend for the current season…
Want to wear a bomber jacket or a leather biker jacket? Well don’t expect us to stop you at the front door and say “You’re not going out in that.”
We have been suggesting that our peers get themselves a biker jacket for, ooh, about six years now. As for the bomber jacket, well of course we’ve been suggesting you might want one of those to update your wardrobe.
Returning to our question, “Why would you want to wear the same outfit as your 20-year-old daughter,” we would also point out that it’s about more than just the frock; it’s about our whole look. At 20, we mostly want to look exactly the same as every other 20-year-old (or maybe the same as our fave celebrity). At over 50, however, we have developed our own style and want to look individual, chic and unlike every other woman of the same age.
So, by all means, wear the same outfit as your 20-Year-Old Daughter. Just style it a bit differently so that your daughter doesn’t look horrified when you appear in the same outfit she’s wearing and screams ‘You’re not going out in that’!
Have you ever worn the same outfit as your 20-year-old daughter? Does your 20-year-old daughter raid your wardrobe? Or do you raid hers? Please tell us about it.
