Anna Wintour, the British-born Editor of American Vogue is not only one of the most powerful women in the international fashion industry, but also one of the most stylish – and don’t make the mistake of assuming that these two things automatically go hand-in-hand.
One of her most illustrious predecessors, Diana Vreeland, certainly understood fashion and was equally powerful, but would any woman who did not inhabit Planet Fashion wish to look like her. Noooo, we don’t think so; her look was “interesting”, unique and esoteric, but would any “normal” woman have wanted to copy her style? We seriously doubt it.
On the other hand, Ms Wintour, 66, the current editor and allegedly the role model for the autocratic editor in The Devil Wears Prada, may not be the ideal boss, but we think most of us would love to dress like her… Well, the team at SoSensational definitely would (with changes in Ms Wintour’s colour palette for Cyndy, naturally).
At 66 years old, Ms Wintour rocks high fashion with flair and confidence. She always looks perfectly groomed. And although she is occasionally criticised for always looking a certain way, we think that is the mark of a clever and uber-stylish woman who knows what works for her and always reaches for it.
Steal her style by always choosing what looks great on you and ignoring what does not. Always add a gloss to your beautifully groomed hair with a spritz of Moroccan Oil, and note how Ms Wintour adds a slick of barely-there lippy and a bit of blush so she never looks washed out.
Note the pretty necklace, simultaneously drawing the eye up to the block-colour sweater plus making the outfit very feminine. And note, too, how the sleeves of the that green sweater are elbow length – a clever trick which creates the illusion of lengthening the body.
By putting that biker jacket over a print dress, she has cleverly juxtaposed pretty and tough – a smart way to avoid a print dress looking too sweet and girlish, as well as a stylish way to cover your arms and not make your cover-up look like an afterthought!
What do you think about Anna’s ‘marmite’ style – do you love it or hate it?
