Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and a great way to achieve the perfect date-night look is with a braided bun.
This romantic twist on the classic, simple topknot instantly adds elegance to your hair, and it is super easy to do.
Celebrity hair stylist Asgar Saboo shows you how to do a braided bun in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide to achieving this hairstyle, even if your hair is not the longest. As well as looking good for Valentine’s, it can work for any special occasion.
Step 1
Before starting, plug in your curling iron to heat. Thoroughly brush through hair, ensuring it is completely smooth and tangle-free. Spray with a heat protection spray as directed on can or dispenser Your iron should now be ready to use. Divide hair into small sections as shown; twirl hair around the iron and hold for a count of 10. Let hair drop into delicate waves.
Step 2
Once your hair is nice and wavy, divide it like this: leave two sections at the front, and tie the rest together at the back in a loose ponytail. Then twirl ponytail around itself, fastening with a hair-grip that matches your hair colour.
Step 3
Then proceed to braid each of the front sections of your hair into traditional plaits by dividing the hair into three sections and crossing these over each. Once both braids are complete, fasten it around the bun with hair grips. Repeat on the other side, pulling the end of this plait under the other, to create the illusion of one long braid going over your bun.
Step 4
Ensure that both plaits and bun are secured with grips and pins. Then carefully loosen a few strands of hair at the front, to create a face framing effect and ensuring that the braids do not look too strict. You may want to curl these tendrils with tongs. Finish with a light spritz of hairspray.
And there you have it: a romantic look for the most romantic night of the year or for any special occasion.
