Carol Kirkwood – here’s how to steal her style

The weather presenter Carol Kirkwood (we are reluctant to say ‘weather-girl’ as it sounds sexist and diminishes this experienced broadcaster), is a favourite face on BBC – when we have a moment to watch (which, to be entirely truthful, is rare).

Aged 54, she began her working life as a broadcaster before going to do other things for a while. She joined The Weather Channel at its UK launch, and when the UK operation closed, she was trained by the Met Office and went to the BBC where she featured regularly across all of the BBC Weather’s output, both radio and television. She is seen in particular these days on BBC Breakfast and Victoria Derbyshire.

In 2015 she was a contestant in the 13th series of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing where, dancing with Pasha Kovalev, she finished in 10th place.

Carol Kirkwood is not exactly a Style Icon, but aged 54, and having to be in front of the cameras 24/7 she has evolved a style which really works. Generally, she looks fresh and pretty, well put together, er, ‘smart’ (that’s not a word you hear among 20-somethings) and just fashionable enough for women of 50-plus to want to borrow some of her style.

We don’t know where she goes shopping but we do know she is based at the BBC’s Media City in Salford, so it may very well be in Manchester or online. We also know she is fond of colour and fond of notch-neck and wrap dresses. On-screen she clearly prefers dresses with sleeves (like most of us, we suspect). But she looked great showing her arms on the ‘Strictly’ Red Carpet.

Steal her style by wearing colours that flatter your hair-colour and skin-tone and by wearing dresses that flatter your shape. If necessary, like Jan and Cyndy, wear shape-wear to get a sleek line under a dress.

We prefer her hair shorter in the ‘hot mess’ she is wearing on the ‘Strictly’ Red Carpet but recognise that might be a bit high-maintenance for daily TV appearances…. She suits the ‘natural’ make-up, smoky eye and bright lippy – all easy to borrow. We would never suggest flip-flops with a great dress, but perhaps Carol was snapped/papped on a very hot day!
