Yes, we know you are being bombarded with information about Spring Trends, even by us, but because, like you, SoSensational founders Cyndy and Jan are stylish but also sensible, they know that out in the real world it is mid-winter with at least another two months (possibly 3, if March reverts to being the chilly time it used to be) of the coldest weather of the year still to come.
So, at SoSensational, we are shooting for good sense and practicality as well as great style, and suggesting gorgeous knits to snuggle into for the coldest time of the year. And not just any old knits, but soft, wonderful-against-the-skin and toastie-warm cashmere knits.
Our current favourite place for finding luxuriously soft, superlative quality cashmere is John Lewis which offers a truly extensive cashmere collection featuring jumpers and cardigans in a huge variety of cuts and lengths. As well as the super-soft, high-quality 100% cashmere pieces from their own brands John Lewis and Weekend By John Lewis – much of it made in Italy, home of some of the planet’s finest cashmere clothing – the John Lewis Cashmere Collection also includes both classic and fashion-led cashmere jumpers and cardigans from some other great brands, such as Pure Collection, to ensure you stay warm and perfectly on trend all winter long. And the John Lewis cashmere collection is available in a huge array of beautiful shades, from irresistibly pretty pastels and match-everything pale neutrals to spirit-lifting jewel-tones and totally practical dark neutrals.
To ensure you stay warm from head to toe, the John Lewis cashmere collection also features beanie hats, berets, scarves and gloves as well as bed socks, all in high-quality cashmere and in a range of pretty tones, including pastels and pale neutrals.
And for those who truly feel the cold, and for whom cashmere is more than a fashion statement, the John Lewis Cashmere Collection also includes pieces such as robes, nightwear, trousers and jumpsuits, all in luxuriously soft, beautifully tactile pure cashmere.

With at least 10 weeks of icy weather ahead and with everyone else focusing on S/S16, there is some sensational cashmere available in the sales, which makes cashmere an even more appealing purchase. So we have found cashmere sale buys for you, too.
Style Tips
- Cashmere used to be considered very “precious” and in need of VERY special laundry treatment. Modern cashmere is less precious, because of the way it is processed, but if you want it to stay soft and not “pill”, have it dry-cleaned or wash it carefully by hand. Basically, follow the instructions on the label…
- Because cashmere is quite pricey, try to buy it in a colour that really looks great on you so that you love wearing it and it really lifts you. Jan has a cashmere sweater in pale violet that she bought on a whim and it unfailingly makes her feel better when she wears it.
- If you buy a cashmere sweater or cardi that is not your very best colour (did you pick a so-so neutral with the idea it would match more of the bottom halves in your wardrobe?) don’t forget to add a scarf, maybe even one in faux fur, in a shade that is perfect against your skin and hair.
- If you have a cashmere sweater or cardi from way back and can’t bear to part with it, remember that shoulder pads (small ones; we’re not talking Dynasty-style shoulders here) can really improve the look of all knits.
