American ex-model Christie Brinkley is 62 and looks pretty good for her age, or indeed for any age.
We could look at her and despair at her God-given advantages – the thousand-megawatt smile, the amazing bikini bod and that mane of blonde hair, to say nothing of the cheese-cutter cheekbones.
But the former cover-girl, who recently brought out a book entitled Timeless Beauty: Over 100 Tips, Secrets, and Shortcuts to Looking Great doesn’t always get it right. Yes, even the impossibly glamorous Christie can get it wrong occasionally, but her “wrong” (left) is a useful lesson in highlighting the “right ” for the rest of us. Of course she still looks perfectly lovely in her Soccer Mom outfit but that’s because she is a very pretty woman with a great figure. But does she look a knockout in the camel pencil skirt, rose-pink shirt and cardi? No, frankly, she does not, so a styling lesson for all of us.
Steal her successful style by wearing a single colour neckline to hemline. Ms Brinkley has chosen vibrant orange and red, both of which look sensational on her but if you look better in emerald or cobalt or fuchsia or even mushroom, choose one of those…
That gorgeous red dress has long sleeves as well as that wonderfully flattering swooping neckline; the orange dress is strappy and she has put a black jacket over the top, which may be because it was cold that day, or because, despite the fabulous bod and 24/7 fitness regime (and doubtless a personal trainer and macro-biotic diet) the tops of even her arms may not be what they were when she was 32, 42 or 52… If she can put a little jacket on top of a sleeveless or strappy dress, we can copy her…
Then smooth out the complexion with BB Cream, emphasise those cheekbones with bronzer and add a glow with pretty blusher before finishing your look with a slick of lippy to ensure your mouth doesn’t go AWOL…
