We don’t know how you are coping, but here at SoSensational Towers, Jan and Cyndy are feeling the loss of The Good Wife acutely.
The US drama series, which has been running on C4 and More 4 for the past 6 years is a real favourite of Jan and Cyndy.
But it came to an end a few weeks ago – not just the end of Series 7, but The End, fini, there are to be no more. Jan and Cyndy are inconsolable.
They admire Julianna Margulies, 50, who played Alicia Florrick in the title role. But they admire even more Christine Baranski, 64, in a key role as top lawyer, Diane Lockhart. And good news for Cyndy and Jan, there is a spin-off series from The Good Wife in the pipeline, apparently, from CBS, again featuring Christine Baranski as Diane Lockhart.
Baranski is an American actress with two Tony Awards for her work on Broadway as well as an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
British audiences less devoted to The Good Wife, may remember her from her role in the film version of Mamma Mia and, way back in the early 90s, as on-screen BFF of Cybill Shepherd and the spurned wife of Doctor Dick, in US sit-com Cybill.
Her acting ability apart, what we love about Baranski is her style – on-screen and off. On-screen, as Diane Lockhart, a brilliant lawyer and boss of a Chicago law firm, she rocks a series of spectacularly wonderful business outfits which always manage to combine power with glamour courtesy of the show’s costume designer, Daniel Lawson. Talking about Baranski’s style, Lawson told US magazine TV Guide that he put her in striking suits, solid dresses and chunky necklaces and brooches to “convey her…rank at the firm. Diane is the boss and I wanted her to look like the boss.”
Steal her on-screen Style for your “power” wardrobe by make high fashion and amazing accessories your friends. Wear simple shapes upgraded with bold jewellery, elegant shoes and bags and, of course, a perfect blow-dry.
Off-screen, her style is a little softer, but works well for her and for any chic 60-something. Steal her off-screen style with a great print dress with a skater skirt (because, of course, “skater skirt” no longer means short skirt, just flared skirt), plus minimal accessories and a more relaxed (though still immaculately well-cut) hairstyle.
Who’s style do you like best – Christine Baranski’s or Diane Lockhart?!
