As with most busy professionals, the staple stationery continues to be a good old-fashioned writing instrument alongside a neatly presented notepad. Despite advances in technology with electronic notepads and tablets, there continues to be no substitute for a traditional pen. Sturdy, reliable and keeps on working, even when your tech has run out of battery!
But a pen is more than just a writing instrument to take notes or write information, it can also tell a lot about you too. It’s an investment that will see countless words imprinted from phone numbers, reminders and meeting minutes, so it’s important to have a quality pen that will survive all the tasks you ask of it, and more.
We recently put this theory to the test with the new Cross Townsend Medalist Rollerball pen, At £135 it comes in at a high price point, but in the spirit of finding a new life partner (as what it’s designed for!) we wanted to see if investing in a quality pen was worth the extra expense.
On delivery the pen was presented in a gorgeous presentation box – we got the pen on its own, but some pens can also come with a notepad included in the gift set. Typically, to be in receipt of such an accessory isn’t usually an occasion, but this time around it felt like something very special.
When you open the box, the first thing to note is the spectacular sense of luxury – this isn’t just something to write with, it’s a companion that shows you mean business at work, but also very difficult to forget! The shine coming from its aluminium casing with its gold detailing gave the feeling you’re about to sign off on a new law, or trade deal (with Brexit that might be a good idea!) as a minister of high office, but this pen is available to all who want to invest in it.
Finished in 23 Karat gold-plated appointments, and weighing just over 1oz, or 28g for metric users, it’s probably one of the heaviest pens we’ve had the pleasure to hold. That weight, however, gives it that extra quality. Since using it, we’ve had colleagues and associates comment on its splendour and ask where they can get theirs! The writing quality with its “Gell Ink Rollerball formula” is top class, while the girth of the pen enables a sturdy grip for quality writing.
The experience, however, is not just in the product and using it for its purpose. The website itself is an entire experience to choose your luxury writing companion, from the tip of the pen (available for most models) as well as choosing the finish, gift wrapping and most significantly; engraving. The product descriptions also give a world of new information, from the girth of the pen, to a detailed description which can only be produced by someone who has a real passion for pens!
A luxury pen is often considered a wonderful gift for the gentleman or lady that has everything, for a birthday or special event. While we would have no hesitation in buying one for ourselves, more traditionally these pens are purchased as a beautiful gift that will last forever. For around £80, you can enjoy a designer feel, beautifully hand-crafted pens as well as a stunning presentation box (which can also be gift wrapped!). When it’s coming to the next special event, this is definitely one to consider.
