Henley Royal Regatta is undoubtedly the best known regatta in the world and is both one of the highlights of the summer sporting calendar and the social season.
For those of you lucky enough to be attending the Regatta in the Stewards’ Enclosure or on Temple Island, there is a traditional dress code for this social event. Dresses must be worn below the knee – and as you walk into the Stewards’ enclosure, the ‘knee police’ are there to make sure they can’t see any! Divided skirts, culottes or trousers of any kind are out too, as is shorts or jeans. It isn’t a requirement for ladies to wear hats but it is customary for them to do so. “Any opportunity to dress up and wear a hat is perfect” says Cyndy, who loves the tradition of Henley.
The Fawley Meadows dress code is slightly different. Dresses and skirts should be of modest length, falling just above the knee or longer. Trousers are allowed and must be full length – no jeans, shorts, denim or trainers are definitely not allowed.
