Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, is the second wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, who is the heir apparent of Queen Elizabeth II.
Now aged 68, the former Camilla Parker-Bowles married Charles in 2005 and is step-grandmother to royal infants George and Charlotte, the children of the Prince of Wales’s eldest son William and Kate, as well as having grandkids from her own children Laura Lopes and Tom Parker-Bowles.
After a lengthy period being depicted by the British press as a marriage-wrecker, the Duchess of Cornwall is now generally treated with more respect. According to the Daily Express in a piece written last April, to mark the 10th anniversary of their marriage “Theirs was the real royal romance of the 20th century – a twisted tale of two lovers kept apart by palace tradition.”
At SoSensational, we especially admired the outfit by Robinson Valentine which Camilla wore for her 2005 marriage to Charles, managing to look elegant, bridal and perfectly appropriate for a woman in her late 50s marrying for the second time – in other words a mature bride role model. SoSensational also loved the Anna Valentine dress and coat she wore to William and Kate’s wedding in 2011. We just wish she would get a new haircut – actually, not totally new as the basic shape really suits her; it just needs an update; maybe having the layers cut a bit shorter and having it all a bit chopped into to make it less helmet-like.
Steal her style. Yes even those of us who don’t have a royal budget for dressing ourselves can learn from the Duchess and steal her best looks and also learn from her mistakes…
The Duchess of Cornwall is not a Petite, but neither is she very tall – she is waaaay shorter than her step-daughter-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge (AKA Princess Kate) and only a few inches taller than the Queen, who is really very short. When Camilla wears one colour from neck to hem, she looks instantly taller and more streamlined.
She has good legs, which are hidden a lot because of the demands of royal protocol. She also has a great bosom, which she sometimes showcases well, and which sometimes makes her look mumsy and frumpy – we think when she wears the wrong bra. So, first lesson, buy a really well-fitting bra that properly supports and lifts. And do keep in mind that the bra which fits you properly is the right size regardless of what it says on the label…
She also looks younger and better (i.e. more in focus) in strong colours; despite that blonde hair, she has quite intense colouring and looks far better in darker, clearer and stronger colours than in pastels which also make her look mumsy.
Her jewels are Royal and unaffordable for most mortals but something sparkly adorning our ear lobes is a style we can all adopt. She used to be a no make-up woman relying on country air and soap-and-water for a fresh complexion. But she now wears make-up and looks all the better for it. We think she wears concealer to even out skin-tone and reduce dark under-eye shadows, and then applies a very lightweight Sport Crème or BB Crème. She definitely emphasises her eyes with clever use of eye-liner, navy-blue eye-shadow and lots of dark mascara. She doesn’t use bronzer but she has learned to use blusher to contour those great cheekbones – another trick we can all steal. Any lipstick is subtle and in a natural tone and never very glossy.
