Every woman needs great jeans in her wardrobe. From running everyday errands to drinks with the girls, jeans work and finding the perfect pair is a must.
The jeans we choose are less seasonal and more personal because, while we, of course, want to be on trend we have to find a pair of jeans that complements our body type and personal style. So take a look at what is on offer this season and pick the shape that is right for you. And do remember that, whichever trend you choose, you will be able to find subtle differences in cut and shape (such as deeper waistband or lower rise) that will impact on how the trend works for you.
Super-wide jeans
Super-wide jeans are part of our current love affair with all things 70s, that continues for the upcoming Autumn/Winter season. Super-wide jeans look instantly chic and on-trend, but work best if you are tall. Think twice about super wide jeans if you are petite (i.e under 5’3” tall) or you could look like an upturned toadstool! If you want to do the whole 70s thing, these super-wide jeans look perfect with a shearling coat, jacket or gilet. Super-wide jeans are great for balancing the silhouette if you tend to carry weight on hips and thighs. Styling is vital with wide, flared jeans. Keep your top half slim. Team super wide jeans with a fitted shirt or blouse, and add chunky heel boots or platforms to add height.
The dark side
Dark or black denim is a great alternative to black fabric trousers. It looks amazing with ballet flats and slouchy knits, as well as with a great military blazer and crisp shirt. What’s more it is uber flattering and adds a little more sass then flat black cloth. So if you want a modern take on a classic then dark denim is for you.
Boyfriend jeans and Mom jeans
These styles are more about cut and fit than actual shape or trend, but they are great for everyday wear with flats, or add an amazing heel for a laid back evening look. Don’t be afraid to play with sizing here, as slightly oversized with a heel looks amazing whereas a more slim line cut works best for flats.
Beaten and rugged
Distressed jeans are everywhere at the moment, but the key to this look is to let the jeans be the focus, and style them with simple classics (cashmere jumper or basic black tees or crisp white shirt, pointed pumps, blazer … you get the idea. This is one for those who like to stand out a little, and aren’t afraid to make a fashion statement.
Classic
The blue denim jean is a classic for a reason. What is there not to love about the classic blue jean? And a straight leg cut is great on most body types, on all ages and for all styles. Also it transcends seasons and never goes out of style. It is time to invest if you haven’t already. Order lots of pairs in different sizes and high- and low-rise; try on at home and return the ones you don’t love.
