We are happy to say that Autumn/Winter 16 is again a season in which fabric is important.
It’s another season in which to embrace fabulous fabric featuring print and pattern.
Print and pattern, is integral to the Halcyon Days aesthetic. Founded in 1950, Halcyon Days offers exquisitely patterned fashion accessories including scarves and cuffs and bangles. The push on cuffs and bangles are made using the 18th-century English craft of enamelling on copper and each piece is a hand-decorated work of art, demonstrating the best of British craftsmanship. The Halcyon Days collection of scarves are made in silk and in wool, crafted into squares and long rectangles which add intrigue and a dash of luxury to any outfit. Our particular favourites are:
Update a plain coat, cardi or jacket with the magnificent printed silk square (left) featuring a beautiful Astronomical Clock inspired by the 16th century clock at Hampton Court Palace in gorgeous Royal Purple. Fold this exquisite 100% silk scarf to form a triangle and wear it draped around shoulders for a very on-trend scarf display.
If you are after a smaller scarf then the one on the right is for you. At 90x90cm, this scarf is just the right size to keep you warm and looking chic at the same time! The fab design incorporates subtle floral hints in green, and four stand out giraffes. Wear as a scarf tied round shoulders, or for a truly 70s vibe, tied around the handle of a handbag.
We are loving these Elephant Array print scarves! Protect from the cold wind with these gorgeously on-trend scarves in 100% silk thus combining perfectly practicality and style. Hand-made in Italy, and printed in a mill in Como, these square scarves will add endless glamour to any outfit for daytime or going out.
Keep it classic with this stunning black scarf, or if you’re feeling daring, go for the pink!
Beautiful fabrics and divine prints are a key feature at one of our High Street faves, Karen Millen. There, the inspiration for the current A/W collection, ranges from the jungle (we adore the animal print used in some of autumn-winter’s most desirable faux-fur coats as well as for jumpers, shoes, bags and belts) to botanicals and geometric (geo) prints, used for midi dresses and skirts that evoke Karen Millen’s signature grown-up, clean, modern aesthetic. Our particular favourites are:
Karen Millen’s in-house design team created this eye-catching geometric print (left), put to dramatic use in this delicate sheer blouse with a ladylike pussy-bow tie at the neck. Wear it with a tailored pencil skirt or tailored trousers for a smart work-wear or going-out look, or with skinny jeans and high-heel ankle boots for a flat-white with the girls.
Spun from a brushed mohair blend and featuring a leopard print, this jumper (right) is perfect for off-duty and weekend dressing, though it could double as a workwear piece if teamed with a tailored pencil skirt or tailored trousers or culottes. Just add smart loafers.
If you are seeking the ultimate party or occasion dress, look no further. This pencil dress, cut from a body-sculpting stretch Italian fabric printed in Como, features an exotic orchid print has a sheer mesh yoke across the décolletage. Just add black pumps or add a black blazer to avoid “arm” issues.
Supple suede and leather are trimmed with gilt hardware to elevate this stunning leopard-print bag. It can be a clutch, but a chunky chain strap transforms it, making it perfect for night-and-day dressing. Enliven all your LBDs with this brilliantly versatile beauty, or it could add va-va-voom to a dark-hued daywear outfit.
We love the beautiful fabrics and the Victoriana-inspired prints in the Laura Ashley A/W collection. The Victorians were the masters of print, thanks to the artistry of William Morris, his peers and imitators. For its A/W collection, Laura Ashley, one of our favourite fashion (and interiors) brands, has re-imagined the Victorian print heritage and has referred back to its own print archive for a series of beautiful pieces featuring gorgeously decadent fabrics, as well as romantic and flattering silhouettes and nostalgic prints. Our particular favourites are:
This fabulous dress (left) featuring an intricate lace bib from the Laura Ashley archive is a real statement dress. Fully lined, it is crafted from 100% floaty silk. It has a high neck and voluminous sleeves and perfectly channels the decadent romance of Victoriana. A true stand-out piece for special occasions, it can be very simply styled with bag and courts in black or totally on-trend silver.
Featuring a heraldic print from the Laura Ashley archive, this super-flattering wrap midi dress (right) has delicate lace inserts on the sleeves and shoulders for a fabulous Boho vibe. For going out or parties, it can be dressed up with mid-heel courts and a jewelled clutch or a little chain-strap bag, while for day-times it can be paired with a blazer or biker, plus ribbed tights and ankle boots or brogues.
With its flared three-quarter length bell sleeves and striking purple colourway, this woven-front top (left) in another iconic print from the Laura Ashley archive pays homage to the 1970s. A truly versatile top, it can be paired with a pencil skirt for everyday wear, or worn with skinny jeans and heels plus statement earrings for an on-trend going-out look.
We love this 70s-inspired top featuring yet another iconic print from the Laura Ashley archive. This striking roll neck top in an easy-to-wear silver-and-black colourway and with flared bell sleeves has a perfect 1970s vibe. Team with cropped kick flare trousers to complete the 70s look or pair with your favourite dark denim.
