Heather Small – here’s how to steal her style

Heather Small is the London-born singer and song-writer best known as the lead singer of the band M People.

The band’s best known hit was Search for the Hero which was released in 1994.

Small’s debut solo album was Proud, which was released in 2000. As well as being the title of the album, Proud was also a hit single and was used as an anthem for the London Olympics of 2012. Small, now 51, was also a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2008.

Steal her style by wearing plain black or black-and-white if, like Small, you have dramatic colouring.  She is pictured here at two music-industry events – for both of them, she has kept her look sleek, sultry and linear.  For the evening event, she wears a drop-dead simple black strapless gown, of which SoSensational thoroughly approves. She has not added jewellery at her neck or ears (which would have detracted from the severity of the cut) – just a couple of glittery cuffs and a silver bag.

We love the monochrome illusion dress which hugs her curves, but hugs them very gently, so the dress shows off a toned body but is not vulgarly tight… Again, very little jewellery, just those jewelled bangles.

What do you think about Heather Small’s classic, simple style?

What is dramatic colouring?

Dramatic colouring means that skin tone and hair-colour are strong, and are best enhanced with strong, stand-out [aka dramatic] shades, such as vibrant red, fuchsia or emerald. Cyndy has dramatic colouring. She has green eyes, red hair and a light skin tone, so stand-out colours look great on her (in her case, colours like bright orange, bright yellow and bright green). Very soft, pastel colours and white make her look (and feel) very washed-out, although those soft and pastel shades suit me. With my very un-dramatic colouring, I look rubbish in red, fuchsia or emerald, as they overwhelm me!

Interesting term, thanks for shedding light on it!
