Our beauty guru, Jocelyn Bailey, shares her beauty holiday takeaways with SoSensational…
It probably won’t come as a surprise to many to learn that I‘m not one of those women who can throw a bar of soap, a tub of Vaseline, deodorant and lipstick into a case and consider herself equipped for a holiday trip.
My toiletries bag alone has been known to throw out the backs of umpteen airport baggage handlers and put the children of countless chiropractors through university.
Obviously no-one really needs to take the entire inventory of their local pharmacy away on holiday with them, so this year I’ve transformed my packing list into something more sensible. Here’s my (almost!) final edit.
For skincare
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, £22 is an all-skin-types, all-in-one, surprisingly lightweight cleanser that melts onto the skin, whisks off make-up and eye make-up alike, and won’t leave your face feeling ‘slimed’ or oily. Just rinse well and pat dry.
Steamcream, priced from £11.15 is an all-purpose moisturiser that can be used for daytime, night-time, after sun-exposure and during long-haul travel. Based on oatmilk, which is calming and anti-inflammatory, and containing added healing agents such as almond oil, chamomile and lavender, it’s gentle enough for babies and sensitive skins, and you can even use it to ease heat rash, shaving rash and sore feet. Plus, there’s 6 gorgeously cute designs to choose from…
For bodycare
Tesco Soleil Light Sun Lotions in SPF15, SPF30 and SPF50, cost a modest £3.50 each and all have 5-star UVA protection, too. Since sunscreens may literally save your skin, these are a steal.
Green People Hydrating After Sun Lotion, £15.50 contains aloe vera, calendula and mint to cool and deeply hydrate the skin. It’s also brilliant for preventing lizard legs.
Wella Professional Sun Hair & Body Shampoo, £9.90, sluices away chlorine, oils and dirt with a silky lather that remoisturises summer-stressed skin and hair.
Soft & Gentle new 0% Aluminium, £2.99, comes in a compact 150ml can and contains no aluminium, parabens or alcohol. Instead, horsetail helps shrink the pores to minimise sweating, and sage fights odour.
For haircare
Charles Worthington Takeaway Colour Enhancer shampoos and conditioners are available in mini sizes, £1.99 each from Boots to help wash, condition and protect hair colour from fading in the sun. Choose from Blonde, Brunette and even Violet Toning versions for white/grey hair.
John Frieda Luxurious Volume Blow Dry Lotion, £1.99 is a petite-sized styling product that not only adds va-va-voom while you dry, but also protection against the holiday heat.
Ego Professional Ego Trip Dual Voltage Set, £37.35 comprises a mini hair straightener and mini dryer (complete with clip-on diffuser). They’re lightweight, professional and, thanks to special conditioning features, umpteen times better than anything the average hotel might have to offer.
For make-up
Chantecaille HD Perfecting Bronze, £62, is a velvety bronzing powder that won’t settle into fine lines, but minimises pores and blotchiness for a flawless finish.
Fake Bake Tinted Body Glow, £9.30 is half-moisturiser, half-golden shimmer, half-godsend. Add it to arms, legs, shoulders and decolletage.
Urban Decay Naked 24/7 Glide On Double Ended Eye Pencils, £12.50 each come in four super-wearable colourways. Being creamy, you can smudge them for shadow, add emphasis to the eye contour or simply draw an impeccable eyeline for definition. Then, when they dry, they’re brilliantly budgeproof.
Chanel Le Volume Waterproof Mascara, £25. Always the best. ‘Nuff said.
L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Lip Palette Nude, £12.99 contains six hot lippie shades from palest nude to rich bronze, with rose, pinks and peaches in between. Mix and match with the built-in brush and your colour options extend far beyond the basic six.
