It’s never too late to start taking care of your skin. As our skin matures it needs that extra love and care to keep it feeling fresh and glowy, which puts a smile on our face. Here’s our how-to tips on caring for your skin in your fifties:
Start with a cleanse
As with all good skincare routines it’s essential that we start the day with a gentle face cleanse to remove any dirt or sweat that might of built up overnight. It’s vital that we use a cleanser that’s ideal for sensitive skin to ensure none of our natural oils are being stripped away which can leave us with dry, flaky skin. Our current favourite is the Dermalogica Age Smart Skin Resurfacing Cleanser (£40.00) from LOOKFANTASTIC. This dual-action cleanser is perfectly designed for mature skin as it both exfoliates and soothes to improve skin texture and protect against signs of ageing.
Give your a little facial massage
Get blood pumping with a daily facial massage. This a great step in anyone’s skincare routine, but especially for more mature complexions to encourage collagen production, blood flow and reduce fluid build up. For us women that are going through this menopause this is particularly important as we find to experience a dramatic reduction in collagen which makes skin become looser, sag and form wrinkles. By treating ourselves to a quick, daily facial massage we’re encouraging that collagen production and general blood flow which leaves our skin feeling firmer.
There is so many facial massage tools on the market, so shop around to find one which suits you the most, the one we’re currently using is the Revlon Jade Stone Facial Roller (£14.99). For an extra refresh pop the massage tool in the fridge to keep it cool, this is a great way of de-puffing your skin in the morning.
Find a serum that works for you
Treat fine lines and wrinkles carefully. Finding a serum that’s suited to you can help the improvement on uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation and smooth out those lines and wrinkles. Our go-to is the fabulous Resurfacing Serum (£34.00 – £64.00) from Aurelia London. To serum apply 2-3 drops in the morning (or night) and use firm sweeping motions.
It’s time to moisturise
As stated previously, we can find that our mature skin can experience a dramatic reduction in collagen production. This means we can lose volume, and our skin can become drier. To restore volume loss we can add extra moisture with a good daily moisturiser. Our current favourite during the summer months is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream Moisturiser (£6.49). Not only is the moisturiser incredibly refreshing and cool to the skin but it also instantly locks in hydration as you apply it. This is a brilliant, everyday moisturiser to apply on it’s own or before make up.
We hope these little tips have given you some insight on how-to care for your gorgeous skin to keep yourself glowing from within.
