Whilst sometimes nicknamed as the tomboy shape, inverted triangle shapes are no less feminine than any other! If the below sounds like you, you’re an athletic inverted triangle shape.
- You have broader shoulders
- Your bust is larger than your waist
- You have a narrow waist and small hips
It’s oh-so easy to accentuate the gorgeous features and create an hourglass shape with floaty shoulders and the perfect bottoms, so take a look at our style guide.
When it comes to tops, making your shoulders look smaller is key, and the easiest way to do this is to choose a batwing top! This helps to smooth out the broadness of your shoulders. Alternatively, choose a v neck top or a piece that defines the waist and creates a peplum hem.
Jackets with hip and waist details are the perfect choice here, but make sure you stay away from shoulder pads! Narrow lapels are a great choice with blazers and smart jackets, as they won’t add any extra bulk to your top half, but you can go for any length and still look gorgeous.
If you’re looking to create an hourglass shape, this is where bottoms come into play! Bright colours and horizontal stripes draw the eyes away from your shoulders, and certain designs help to create hips. Waist height skirts look gorgeous on your small waist but your shape is one of the few that also look good at the hip, and flared, full or peplum skirts give the illusion of curvy hips!
If you’re looking to create curves, try a paperbag waist to create a gorgeous waist. Alternatively, wide leg trousers and stylish culottes look just gorgeous on an inverted triangle shape.
Like with a skirt, dresses are all about creating hips and disguising the waist! Dresses complete with ruffled skirts or full skirts look chic, or choose a peplum for a look ideal for work or evenings out. V neck designs and straps look fabulous on an inverted triangle.
Fortunately, inverted triangles can get away with just about any accessories or jewellery! Here, the only recommendation is to choose a cross body or clutch bag rather than one just under your arm, as this will draw attention away from your shoulders.
It’s easy to find gorgeous swimwear when you’re an inverted triangle shape! Just look for something with chic peplum hems, belts or high legs for vintage chic. Alternatively, tie side bottoms draw your eyes away from shoulders, as do printed bottoms.
