At SoSensational, we absolutely adore Joanna Lumley; sorry, that is Joanna Lumley OBE, FRGS to give her her official title.
In fact we think she is simply sensational and absolutely fabulous.
Which, of course, brings us to Absolutely Fabulous, the Movie which opens in the UK on July 1st.
In the film, Lumley, who was 70 in May 2016, brilliantly reprises the role of the Champagne-swigging, chain-smoking Patsy Stone from the massively successful 1990s BBC sit-com Absolutely Fabulous. Again, of course, she stars opposite Edina “Eddy” Monsoon, played by Jennifer Saunders. In the film, the chums get into a spot of difficulty after accidentally drowning supermodel Kate Moss in the Thames (…and we know you know who Kate Moss is, but we said “supermodel” there, just in case you thought we meant Kate Mosse, the author). The pair flee Britain for the South of France, which is where the real fun starts.
We were going to say “Lumley, an unbelievable 70 in May” but, hey, as we keep on saying at SoSensational that’s what 70 looks like these days. And, yes, we know not all of us are blessed with this actress and former model’s great bone structure, but Lumley perfectly demonstrates that providing we put in the effort, we can still stay looking pretty sensational or even absolutely fabulous after 50, 60 or, yes, 70…
We love her look as Mother of the Groom, when her son James was married. The wedding was back in 1997 but in that vintage coat and flower-decked-hat, Lumley perfectly demonstrates how to look both traditional and uber-chic at the same time.
Steal her style by never being photographed (or, indeed, seen) without full slap, which should be heavy enough to conceal what needs to be concealed and to emphasise what needs to be emphasised (notably eyes, cheek-bones and lips) but never too heavy. In other words apply your slap how Lumley wears her make-up as herself and not how she wears it as Ab Fab’s Patsy.
We love colour on Lumley, especially that stunning orange. The dress itself is a little mumsy – but she still looked fab in it at the 2008 Baftas! Update her look by getting a slightly more modern version, with slightly less sleeves!
We think Lumley still has a great figure (and one a lot of 35-year-olds might envy) and a similar dress that was a bit more fitted might have been more flattering to the woman who snogged Leonardo Dicaprio in Wolf of Wall Street.
We love her casual look (in a shoot for the Daily Mail) and think it seems much more what Ms Lumley might choose to wear day to day: those printed trousers worn with the long-line pink cardi and “clashing” apricot-colour top look perfectly on trend, and work well together, and are finished perfectly with that skinny belt and looped scarf.
