September will mark a new year for fashion. Regardless of the temperature, it is out with Spring/Summer and an open embrace for all things A/W.
With that in mind we thought we would give you a peek at the big A/W trends and highlight some key pieces to purchase to give a major update to your wardrobe so that you will look fabulous as those autumn months draw closer.
1. Monochrome – graphic and very grown up, monochrome never really goes away, but then black-and-white is a fashion classic for the very good reason that it always looks impossibly chic. For the new season monochrome is a major trend again and shown on the catwalks in various forms including print, check, bold stripes and geometric patterns. For A/W15/16, monochrome is bold and beautiful and we love it.

2. Velvet – A/W 15/16 is all about texture and this season, velvet is the way to go. From full length skirts to structured blazers and everything in between, velvet screams autumn/winter. We personally love it for glamorous evening wear as velvet is all about sophisticated seduction, and will make you stand out from the crowd, but a velvet blazer can also work for daytime, so if you invest in a velvet jacket, make it work hard in your wardrobe.

3. Military Style – Military trends come and go, but this season sees military back on the catwalks but it is all about structured military for coats, jackets, trousers and skirts. Look for sumptuous navy or black with accents such as gold piping, burgundy stripes, tassels and ribbons. This season is serious military chic.

4. Folk – the 70s were big this summer and the folk trend, which was a key component of the 70s, continues on the catwalks for A/W recreating a delicious vintage, Bohemian feel. Think layers, patchwork and floaty when working the trend, and style with chunky-heel boots and thick tights for the perfect autumnal look.

5. Shearling – living in a country with true seasons is something we should embrace and A/W 2015 sees shearling front and centre as the outerwear to be seen in. We love anything that is on trend and also keeps us super warm on those chilly winter days. But unlike shearling of earlier years, this is shearling on the outside rather than as lining.

6. Jumper Dress – This is the 21st-century take on the Sweater Dress and a trend that everyone can wear, no matter what your shape or style. The jumper dress is potentially very flattering though we may have to carefully think through our foundations – a well-fitting T-shirt bra and a Shapewear slip to hide any VPL. It can be worn for work, weekends, dinner or running errands and is an instant outfit in one. We were super happy to see it back on the catwalks for this season, as it really is an A/W staple. [Note from Cyndy – maybe mention shapewear for a sleek silhouette]

7. Sequins – A/W is all about the sequin. We are not talking a little discreet embellishment; oh no, this is full-on sequins from neck to hem. It is uber glamorous and ideal for those big events you have coming up over the party season. Now all you have to do is keep accessories simple and let the sequins stand out.
