OK so winter is upon us. It’s official. And yes, we all love those beautiful winter scenes with snow on the ground and crisp winter mornings when you can see your breath. But let’s be honest, the runny nose and chapped lips are not exactly fun.
So to ensure you stay both stylish and warm, and keep up with the winter fashion, we have provided the perfect guide to layering, so you look chic and stylishly wrapped up during these chilly months.
Wearing layers is not about looking like you have worn the entire contents of your wardrobe, although let’s face it, there are some mornings when we wish we could! It is about playing with texture and tone, to ensure that you have a put together outfit that can work in any and every environment.
Starting from the beginning – underwear. Wearing a vest underneath knits allows the skin to have a light material against it and a silky texture provides a great contrast against the wool. Boden do a gorgeous silk cami that is perfect for exactly this. Silk Cami, Boden, £27.30
Heatech from Uniqlo also provide great warmth with attractive styling, as well as a good range of colours and sleeve lengths. Cyndy and Jan wouldn’t dream of venturing out in the winter without it! HEATTECH Uniqlo, from £9.90
Then it is about layering your knits. A fine knit works best underneath, then throw a great chunky cardigan on top. For fine knits that will see you through the whole of winter, M&S have one the best ranges of cashmere on the high street and we love this winter white cowl neck version. Pure Cashmere at M&S, from £69
Off set the fine knit with a contrast in both colour and texture. This Gray & Osbourn cardigan is the perfect example – textured, effortlessly luxurious and the perfect complement to the fine cashmere under knit. Peruzzi Textured Knit Cardigan, Gray & Osbourn, £120
Finally throw on with a muted colour stole to pull the whole look together, Accessorize have a great example that is easy to wear and is super comfortable. Lofty Plain Stole, Accessorize, £17
With layers it is all about being able to mix and match your entire outfit, style your look with the perfect pair of wide legged day trousers and chunky brogues, removing and adding layers as the day demands. Ensure you have colours that complement and contrast, as well as textures that work with the shape of your body and against one another.
