It’s your son or daughter’s big day, and you need to find the perfect outfit…
Whilst you can view our gorgeous range of mother of the bride and groom dresses here, don’t forget about the accessories! These small pieces can help make the outfit, and stop the gorgeous MotB from looking too similar to the bride or bridesmaids.
Times have changed since the cliché matchy-matchy outfits and a rule that demands oversized hats, so we’re taking you through the latest trends for mothers of the brides and grooms.
Do your research
First of all, we don’t want to clash with the bride or bridesmaids! We would recommend staying away from white, ivory and champagne as to not clash with the bride, and why not pick a dress that pairs with the bridesmaids rather than completely matches? Not only would this look oh-so chic, knowing what the mother of the other half is wearing would look great too (and means you won’t both show in the same dress!). It is your daughter or son’s big day, so we’d recommend not wearing something that clashes with bridesmaids or comes across as overly flashy too.
Layer up
It’s rare the mother of the bride or groom wants to show off her arms, so why not accessorize with the perfect layering? Boleros and jackets are the perfect smart layers; a cropped bolero is just perfect to elongate petite pins, peplum hems help create hips, and a tailored jacket that cinches in at the waist will accentuate any figure. Alternatively, this year we’re loving a gorgeous shrug, especially for summer. Choose from a flowy cape or a gorgeously soft scarf; both look equally stunning!

Hats off
This year, it’s all about creating your own style and not following everyone else’s rules. It’s not customary to wear an oversized hat, but if you love them, go for it! If you’d like to keep things parred down, there are some absolutely gorgeous fascinators available at the minute; and be sure to follow our colour tips below!

Statement jewellery
Keep jewellery classic and simple or contrast your pieces with your outfit; it doesn’t need to be loud to make a statement if that isn’t your thing! We would recommend trying on your rings, earrings, necklace and a pretty bracelet and take a look in the mirror. If you’re wondering if it looks too much, take one piece off and continue until you feel comfortable; simple!

Accent colours
Matching your outfit can look incredibly chic, but can also look cliched. Try a few colour options for your outfits and see what looks great on you. A top tip from us; try mixing things up with TWO accent colours to match your dress. If your outfit features a print, try matching your accessories with the main and accent colours on the piece, or if your dress is plain, why not try a neutral colour for your bag and shoes, and an accent colour for your hat?

When the dancing starts, kick off your stilettos and step into your dancing shoes- a pair of oh-so comfy flats you’ve stashed away for the evening, or even if you’re walking over grass or gravel and want to save your heels.
