We can all agree: heading off to a European city is fun.
We love it but maybe, by the time we are over 50, we’ve probably done most major European cities.
So, luckily for us, Thomson has come along with a clever and highly flexible new programme of City Break Getaways, giving us all a chance to take a break in 8 sensational cities around the globe including Bangkok, Hong Kong, Las Vegas and Singapore.
There’s lots of choice over duration, too – from three to 14 nights. To go with the destinations, they’ve hand-picked hotels as well as excursions to help you get the best from your break. Even better, all of the packages include an airport meet-and-greet and transfers.
The Thomson aircraft fleet is ideally suited to long-haul destinations as it includes four state-of-the-art 787 Dreamliners. But to offer greater flexibility, Thomson is also offering flights with other airlines.
Cyndy and Jan are lucky enough to have, between them, visited most of the 8 cities on Thomson’s new programme, but would especially love to revisit Cape Town and New York on a city break.
If you book a getaway to Cape Town, Thomson offer tours of four- to 10-days’ duration that take in a safari and wine-tasting as well, of course, as lots of opportunities to view the dramatic scenery in and around South Africa’s most southerly and arguably most beautiful city.
Dining out is especially wonderful in Cape Town which has an abundance of great restaurants serving superb food and the superlative local wines.
The vibe is relaxed but fashion-aware, so pack lots of clever evening separates and great accessories to give you maximum flexibility.
You already know that New York is a paradise for shoppers as well as for sightseers. On a visit to NYC it is all about how much you can pack in to your trip. As well as a stroll through Central Park, maybe to visit its famous zoo, there are spectacular museums on the stretch of Fifth Avenue known as Museum Mile; there’s the iconic Empire State Building, and if you plan ahead you could take in a show on Broadway.
Manhattan is a fashion hub, so pack your favourite frocks and best-loved shoes for dining out or for sipping a Cosmopolitan at one of the city’s many hip bars. But don’t forget to leave space in your suitcase to bring home your spectacular style finds.
The other cities on Thomson’s new programme are Bangkok, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Miami, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
Have you visited lots of cities in Europe or around the globe? Do tell us which is your favourite and why.
