It’s Blue Monday, but we want to brighten your Monday as much as possible!
Christmas has well and truly passed for another year, it’s cold and gloomy outside, we’re back at work and we’re not quite at pay day. We can see why this poor Monday is the ‘most miserable day of the year’!
It’s not all gloom though, there are plenty of opportunities to brighten up your day! Here our top 5…
Have a delicious breakfast
We won’t deny that we usually spend our mornings in a fluster and rush through our cereal for breakfast, but if it’s going to be a hard day, why not start it off right? We’d recommend a tasty Eggs Benedict for breakfast for a nice change. Eggs contain a chemical which the body turns into that feel-good serotonin, and a wholegrain carb releases insulin, boosting the serotonin’s positive effect!
Give yourself something to look forward to
Now Christmas is over, it’s easy to feel like there’s nothing to look forward to. Why not book yourself a holiday? We’re eyeing up these gorgeous garden tours! Why not choose a unique trip around the gardens of India– you get to visit the sites of Old Delhi and of course the Taj, but also explore beautiful gardens and stunning Unesco World Heritage Sites. For something closer to home, we all know how fabulous the flowers of Holland are, and we’re jealous of everyone that gets to see the sights! What’s more, psychologists found that looking forward to your holiday boosts your current mood!
Do something kind for someone else
Why not try a random act of kindness? According to a study by the University of London, doing something nice for free instantly boosts your self-esteem and lifts your mood. Whether it’s paying a stranger’s bill forward, complementing someone on their stylish coat or making a loved one a cup of tea, there’s so many ways to be extra thoughtful!
Your favourite company
Why not spend time with the kids, grandkids or your furry kid? A cheerful child is always a joy to be around and is bound to make you laugh and smile. Alternatively, your dog’s funny antics will brighten your day. Stroking your dog or cat for 15 minutes actually releases feel-good hormone prolactin, oxytocin and serotonin whilst also lowering the stress hormone cortisol!
Have a bath
If it’s reached the end of the day, and our tips haven’t quite hit the spot, why not take a relaxing bath? There’s nothing better than putting out candles around your bath, filling it with a gorgeous scent (We’d recommend ESPA’s Restorative Bath Oil for the ultimate relaxation) and getting lost in a good book!
