We all love our jeans, but occasionally we all need a break from them..
Happily, there are lots of on-trend alternatives to jeans for summer 17.
The big trend shift in casual trousers, as we’re sure you already know, relate to the length since ankle-grazers are still very much on point. There have also been shifts in cut and volume offering the option of skinny, slim, relaxed or super wide. We’ll be offering styling tips for super wide next month.
At SoSensational, we believe that looking great in trousers starts with knowing what’s on-point, and then styling them perfectly for your body shape as well as in line with trends.
For this season, the major styling elements to consider relate to volume, clean lines and statement sleeves. There are also new ways of layering, which play into the volume trend. When working the volume trend, tunics and oversized shirts look fabulously on-point and work well for most body shapes. And there are lots of options in tops such as great shirts and blouses that have Statement Sleeves, Cold Shoulder or ruffles.
While discussing volume, it is important to keep in mind that, unless you are model height and have a very straight shape, volume is best kept to your top half OR your bottom half, not both.
Let’s start by acknowledging that most trouser shapes work for those who are both slender and perfectly in proportion. It is the remaining 99 percent of womankind, who definitely include Jan and Cyndy, who may appreciate advice… If you need help discovering the differences in fabric, stretch, cut, etc that make trousers work for specific body shape-issues, do take a look at these style guides: pears, fuller-bust, hour-glass, petite and tall.
