Now January is nearly over, the next event we’re looking forward to is Valentine’s Day!
We know many people don’t love Valentine’s Day- romantic gestures are more common than cards for over 50s- but we’ll take any excuse to dress up in a posh frock and head out for a meal! With this in mind, we’ve taken a look through all of our favourite brands and stores to find the perfect 50+ Valentine’s dresses. This year, with us entering the roaring ‘20s and with ‘70s fashion heading our way, we’ve put real emphasis into vintage styling; take a look!
Wrap Dresses
Wrap dresses create the perfect mix between modern and vintage, and their sweet shape is just perfect for a Valentine’s meal or evening out! Let’s not forget, ruching, belts and wraps around the tummy perfectly disguise any tummy lumps and bumps, and accentuate your waist at the same time! Three of our favourites for the season include Boden’s Olive Wrap Dress (left), a casual but sweet take with a v neck to make the most of our frames, Ted Baker’s Cross Over Wrap Midi Dress (middle) for vintage glam style points and the colour for Valentine’s (add a vest top if you don’t want your back to show), and a trending silk wrap dress from Rebecca De Ravenel (Right), complete with sumptuous pomegranates for a fun take on maxi dresses.
Left: Boden, Olive Wrap Dress, sizes 6-22, petite or regular, £98
Middle: Ted Baker, Syrrina Dress, sizes 6-16, was £179, now £89
Skater Dresses
Valentine’s dressing is all about sweet and sophisticated styles, and skater dresses are just perfect for that. Add a touch of va-va-voom with hints of pinks and reds, or pretty florals for the occasion. For these looks, we’ve chosen a gorgeous V neck skater dress from Ted Baker (Left), where a cropped jacket in red, lilac or pink would match perfectly, the chic Blssom Skater Dress from Oasis (Middle) for more casual evenings, and the Yumi Skater Dress (Right) which has a gorgeous cosmopolitan look.
Left: Ted Baker Hedgerow V Neck Skate Dress, sizes 6-16, was £149 now £89

Jeans and a Nice Top
Whether you’re heading out for casual drinks or a coffee, or just prefer your favourite jeans to a dress, there’s always jeans and a nice top! We’ve chosen from sumptuous silks, lace, embroidery and patterns to find three perfect tops for your Valentine. A satin cami is perfect with a skirt, jeans or trousers, and the lace in River Island’s V Neck Cami Top (Left) adds a touch of modesty. If you love lace, we love the sleeves on the Gina Bacconi Joella Floral Lace Top (Middle), or Roman’s Embellished Top (Right) perfectly displays one of our best parts- our shoulders.
Left: River Island Lace Satin Cami Top, sizes 6-18, £16
Middle: Gina Bacconi Joella Floral Lace Top, sizes 8-22, was £170, now £85
Right: Roman Originals Sparkle Stripe Embellished Overlay Top, sizes 10-20, £35
The Skirt
If you’re in need of a new skirt to match your new top, there are plenty of trending pieces available! Denim is set to be a huge trend, so a chic paperbag midi skirt from Boden (middle) is perfect for a smart-casual look. Another vintage trend, houndstooth, look fabulous with a monochrome look, so Wallis’ skirt (left) is ideal. Finally, for a classic look, a patterned chiffon skirt (Phase Eight, right) is ideal for a floaty, loved-up look.

Middle: Boden Cara Denim Paperbag Skirt, sizes 6-20, £65
