Yay, the weather is lovely – or, at least, it was lovely, when this blog was being written.
But, this is the UK. And in May in the UK, it can be balmy and warm or teeth-chatteringly chilly all on the same day.
So, by the time you read this, you might be sweltering gently or you might have turned the central heating back on…
The question for this precise moment, therefore, is ‘What should I be wearing right now?’ We all know we will want some High Summer clothes in due course, and we may very well be on the hunt for Occasion clothes but what do we want now? What do we want that looks on-trend and Spring-like, especially for weekends and for the upcoming Spring Bank Holiday, but also will not look too silly if the day starts warm and gets cold, or starts cold and then warms up…
At SoSensational, we think the answer is white jeans and a summer knit. Before the notion of white jeans makes you shake your head in horror, let us reassure you: anyone can wear white jeans. As a woman over 50, the key to looking sensational in white jeans lies in choosing the right cut, in never wearing them too tight and adding the right knit.
Picking the cut, rise and length that are most flattering for you is important and if you need a little guidance on which jeans cuts are best for what body shapes, consider taking a look at this style advice blog.
Back there, by the way, we said ‘not too tight,’ but ‘not too tight’ does not mean ‘baggy’…It can mean fitted; it just should not mean white jeans that fit like a second skin…skin-tight jeans will not look stylish even if you are very slender …
The next critical factor in looking stunning in white jeans is the length of the knit you wear on top. If you are a pear (wide at hips and/or thighs, small busted, slim up top) these tips may help you choose. If you have an a hourglass shape (slim waist, bigger bust and hips) these tips may help.
Colour is critical, too. Your spring knit needs to look spring-like as well as looking perfect paired with white jeans. Naturally, pastels spell summer; navy has a jaunty nautical-summery freshness while pale neutrals such as cream, nude and mushroom look seasonally appropriate. We are loving stripes, too – monochrome stripes will pair perfectly with white jeans, but any colour stripe on a white ground or a white stripe on any darker ground will also advance your style cred….
Are you a fan of white jeans?
