If you have wide feet, we understand the struggle of shoe shopping and often settling for unattractive shoes in the name of comfort and fit.
However, the current offering of wide fit shoes will keep you looking on-trend, right down to your toes!
Wide fit fashion shoes have come a very long way since they were the province of crinkly-haired grannies with bunions. Instead, we’re presented with a combination of style and comfort. Today’s wide-fit shoes are all about style combined with comfort for those of us (probably the majority) whose feet no longer fit the Cinderella model of very narrow and dainty.
We have rounded up the very best the high street has to offer to finish off your wardrobe perfectly.
LK Bennett is not just the go-to brand for style, but also for comfort. You will find a small but alluring selection of wid-fit shoes as part of their new A/W collection.
Dorothy Perkins is a major High Street brand which recognises that, young or old, we don’t all have Cinderella feet. Their wide-fit collection is also comprehensive, perfectly on trend and offering various heel heights as well as flats, platforms and wedges.
From DP, our picks include a brilliant block-heel version of the Ghillie in perfect-with-everything nude, as well as an astonishingly on-trend, high front black sandal. For holidays, weekends or to pair with a pretty party frock, these strappy gold flats are perfect.
Hotter Shoes pride themselves on offering ultimate comfort. Now, comfort was never really given much consideration by Jan, who frequently wore deeply uncomfortable shoes in the name of fashion. But Hotter don’t sacrifice style while still being completely versatile.
Hotter’s take on this season’s hottest shoe, the classic plimsoll (the Mabel, available in 8 colours and prints) is now firmly on Jan’s must-buy list, while their Jazz Shoe (in black or red) are great to accompany your summer work wardrobe. We have really fallen in love with these black and leopard Abbeyville Shoes, perfect to take you from day to night, with a stunning animal theme statement.
New Look is a very popular and well-priced High Street brand especially famed for its fabulously on-trend and hot-off-the-catwalk shoes. They are also a brand which recognises that as women age, they (that is, we) may need a wider fit for comfort. So New Look produces literally 100s of pairs of shoes and sandals (and in autumn/winter, of course, boots) in a wide fit.
Our special favourites from New Look’s extensive collection of wide-fit heels and flats, includes the shockingly on-trend camel laser-cut peep-toe wedges; and, with holidays and summer in mind, these cruelly tempting plaited gladiator flats.
And never forgetting this multi-purpose ankle-strap court shoe (available in nude if you prefer) that is perfect to wear with all kinds of formal outfits, as well as with cropped trousers.
Debenhams, the department store which seems to offer so much at such terrific prices, is another brand offering brilliant wide-fit shoes. Their wide-fit collection is especially good if you are looking for shoes for weddings, eveningwear or occasions. Two brands from their wide-fit collection that we especially love for weddings, evenings and occasion wear are Debut and Red Herring.
For weddings and occasions a stand-out court is by Debut in navy satin, while a wide-fit mid-heel court in nude patent would be especially good for weddings – even for a Mature Bride. With holidays in mind as well as special occasions, we love these low-heel t-bar sandals by Red Herring.
If you shop with clever Plus Size High Street brand-leader Evans you will already be aware that their offering includes wide-fit shoes though at SoSensational we make a clear distinction between Plus-size and wide-fit: being plus-size does not mean you necessarily have wide feet (while having wide feet does not necessarily mean you are a Plus) – it really is all about bones! But for those who do have wide feet, there is a great collection of wide-fit shoes and boots at Evans.
Our favourites from their extensive collection of shoes and sandals include a snake-print, heeled sandal as well as a nude patent flat with a very on-trend point-toe. We also love a truly versatile gold pump which could work for day, evening, holidays or occasions.
Our high street fave, M&S, never fails to deliver on style and comfort. They do a fab range of wide-fitting shoes for all occasions, including sandals, boots, trainers wedges and more.
We have fallen for these gorgeous peep-toe mules (also available in black) which are perfect for lunch with the girls or that garden party/BBQ at the weekend. We love a strappy sandal, but sometimes TOO strappy means cutting in! These wide crossover sandals are the perfect sandals to take away with you to match all your lovely maxi dresses – with no digging in! Finding the perfect pair of work shoes isn’t always easy – we have taken away all the stress and found you these smart leather loafers, available in black, navy or tan.
While we are on the subject of fashion combined with comfort, we would be falling down in our role as providers of all the fashion intelligence that older women need if we failed to mention Off The Ground Heels. Known as OTG Heels, their shoe collection isn’t specifically for wider feet but is all about blissful comfort for all real feet – that is, feet which don’t just strut the catwalk or pose immobile for a photographic shoot, but actually have to carry us on the daily commute, or allow us to enjoy a formal occasion without having to wince with pain. OTG Heels are designed to be both elegant and comfortable – two frequently incompatible objectives in heeled shoes.
