Christmas is over and the January blues have begun; so we don’t blame you if you’re heading into sunnier climes for a well-earned break!
This winter, we’re already seeing bright colourways, animal prints and bow details on the new season bikinis, tankinis and swimming costumes, so we’ve chosen some fabulous pieces that accentuate a lady over 50’s figure. Whether you’re heading out on a tropical vacation or lusting over the gorgeous sunny weather to come, this is the blog for you!
Yellow
Yellow has become the new pink this year. Whether it’s a soft buttercup hue or a deep ochre, we’ve seen the colour all over our fashion and homeware; and we love it! There’s a shade of yellow to suit every skin tone with or without a tan; we’d up for a mustard tone for a spring or autumn, or a softer lemon shade for a summer or winter (Not sure which shade you are? Take our quiz!).
New Look’s printed ochre bikini is perfect for catching the rays, the longline design covers and extra touch of coverage, and the halterneck and wide band is surprisingly supportive! If a fully yellow set isn’t for you, Marks and Spencers’ floral tankini ticks off the trend with subtle yellow detailing. This fabulous set features tummy control technology and padded busts add extra support, whilst the vintage polka dot panels add a slimline silhouette.

Vintage
We just adore vintage swimwear! Retro polka dots and stripes, classic neck and leglines and the super stylish belted swimsuits that scream the swinging 60s and 70s. With such a wide range available, it’s easy to find a piece with extra support for the bust or tummy. Boden’s take on the retro theme again featured padded cups and body-sculpting lining, but this comes in a stylish polka dot design with contrasting trims and flattering panelling.
Phase Eight’s belted swimsuit oozes bond babe style with the stylish circle buckle, flattering chevron stripes v neckline and neck tie. With hidden bust cups and a supportive mesh fabric, choose this piece for vintage glamour that doesn’t compromise on support.

Halterneck
If you’re looking for a piece that will never of style, the halterneck is a key trend. The tie neck pulls up for a supportive fit, and are particularly great for broad shoulders.
The John Lewis botanical print sling halter top comes in a gorgeous floral print complete with supportive sling slides for an uplifiting shape and touch of vintage design. Tie the string at the nape or around your back for a bandeau style and no tan lines! If you prefer a costume, Boden’s Valencia swimsuit is perfectly body sculpting. A hidden body sculpting lining and padded fixed cups sculpt your body, and the clever ruching hides any tummy!

Frill
Ready to take the plunge with a chic frill style? Frills can look young, but they’re oh-so flattering! Whether the frills hide lumps and bumps or add an extra touch of style to your swimwear, there’s a frill set for everyone.
Next’s Pour Moi check piece is so flattering, especially for pear shapes! The check bust area with frill hemline contrasts with the plain bottoms, making the bust appear bigger and bum appear smaller. If you’re looking for a bright piece to escape any chance of the winter blues, New Look’s frill wrap swimsuit is just perfect. The wrap front design with frill hemline helps slim the tummy, and the wide straps add extra support.

Leopard
Leopard and animal print has surely begin the biggest trend for A/W, ladies? So there’s no surprise the wild patterns have made their way onto fabulous swimwear. Try a full animal piece or a design with animal detailing if you aren’t quite ready to dive fully into the trend.
JD William’s animal print swimsuit exudes vintage glamour with its silhouette enhancing black side panels and pretty bow detailing to the front. With a light bust shelf and fixed foam cups, this adds comfortable support too. If you’re looking to hit as many trends as possible whilst on the beach, New Look’s belted leopard swimsuit is perfect! A black belt with tortoiseshell belt provides vintage style; but beware; this swimsuit doesn’t offer any additional support aside from adjustable straps.
