Graphic and grown-up, monochrome is a welcome key trend for the season and a clever way to ease into spring.
Black alone is not only too wintry but can be unflattering to over-50 complexions, while white alone is too summery and can also be hard to wear for over-50s. But combine black and white in blocks, checks, gingham, stripes or a graphic print and you have the perfect transitional pieces. Monochrome looks particularly good offset with a pop of colour, such as a scarf or clutch bag in your best bright.
If you don’t suit monochrome – and not everyone does, including Cyndy – you can still work this trend. One way is to wear your favourite bright and just add a very bold monochrome bag, such as a black-and-white tote.
The other way is to buy something gorgeous in monochrome – maybe a dress, duster coat or top – and add a very bright scarf in your best and most flattering bright. Monochrome mixes very well with most bright colours, especially, fuchsia, hot pink, red, purple, orange, bright green and bright yellow. It also works with mid-tone pastels such as candy pink, lemon, tangerine, sky blue, and peppermint.
