Fashion and style is all about celebrating our gorgeous body shapes; accentuating our favourite parts and working on the parts we’d like to disguise. If the below points sounds like you; you’ve got a fabulous pear shape!
– Your hips are larger than your bust and shoulders
– You have a defined waist
– You first gain weight in your legs and bottoms before your upper body or tummy
– You have full buttocks and thighs
The voluptuous pear shape is gorgeous, and we just love working our clothes to show off our waists and make us appear more hourglass- if you’ve got it; flaunt it!
We’ve put together some perfect pear tips to accentuate your best bits- whether you’d rather disguise larger thighs or accentuate your waist; there’s something for every gorgeous pear shape in our style guide.
Tops
There are three key ways to choose the perfect top for a petite frame. You can shift the focus from your hips by picking a pretty pattern, horizontal stripes to widen the frame or a gorgeous embellished piece around the neck to draw the eye up. Alternatively, pick a boat neck or off-the-shoulder piece to help broaden the appearance of your shoulders, or a top with a longer back to even out your shape. Finally, with the itty-bitty waist pear shapes have, a wrap or fitted top perfectly accentuates your figure!
Jackets and coats
Lifeless, baggy jackets coats only add bulk to your gorgeous shape, so choose a fitted jacket. Look for jackets with fitted waists, or even better, a chic belt to cinch yourself in. We think a longer jacket that flows past your hips or a cropped jacket that draws attention to your petite waist look sensational on a pear shape. Fitted shoulders are also a great look; balancing out your hip width.
Skirts
A-line skirts look gorgeous on a pear shape- nipping you in at your waist and skimming over your curves; and surprisingly a midi skirt does an equally fabulous job! Choose a midi wrap skirt to help streamline your silhouette and show a pinch of skin over a bias cut midi that will cut your legs off at the wrong point if you’re looking for a longer, more glamorous piece. Choose skirts in darker colours to put emphasis on your bright top!
Dresses
The main go-to for a sensational pear shape is a pretty skater dress that showcases your waist and glides over your hips. If you want to show a bit of skin, spaghetti straps broaden your shoulders, but if you’d rather keep covered choose a pretty embellishment or ruffle to the top to guide people’s eyes upwards. Avoid a drop waist or thick fabric as this will add bulk to your thighs.
Trousers
Bootleg or flared jeans in a darker shade look amazing on a pair shape as they balance out your curvy thighs and hips without overpowering. However, if you prefer a pair of skinny jeans, choose a high-waisted pair to show off your waist! Finally, relaxed styles makes your legs look longer if you’re looking for a looser cut. You may not think culottes would suit you, but they do a great job of skimming over thighs and vertical stripes slim the leg.
Accessories
Clever scarves, necklaces and earrings all take the emphasis away from your hips by drawing the eye up, and knitted or silk scarves look so elegant all year round! Clutch bags and shoulder bags sit on your waist to hide some bulk, or a chunky oversized tote does a fabulous job of taking the eye away.
Swimwear
If you love a bikini, mix and match a printed top with plain coloured bottoms. We’d recommend an underwired, padded cup and high-waisted bottoms to showcase your waist and make your bust look larger. If you prefer a swimsuit or tankini, wired pieces look just fabulous, vertical patterns or sculpting block colours slimline your silhouette, and halter-neck bikinis help broaden your shoulders.
