Now we’ve caught a glimpse of the autumn/winter runways, we’re looking for key pieces that will take us through the last of summer and through to the next few seasons.
One of our favourite British designers Amanda Wakeley has an eye for pieces built to last through the seasons, so of course her new collection has been crafted to look effortlessly stylish for the foreseeable! Wakeley’s signature style creates a foundation for your wardrobe, with transeasonal style at the forefront, whilst her new collection adds a touch of travel inspiration, safari references and sports luxe to update the classic looks and keep them trending.
Key Colours
One of the biggest colours on the runway is purple, and there’s a shade to suit everyone! We think a deep wine colourway looks stunning on a mature lady, so we were extremely pleased when Amanda Wakeley brought our her plum coloured collection! A stand-out piece for us is the Belted Shawl Collar Check Jacket, combining the purple trend with an autumn check that will never go out of style. Swap your classic blazer for this versatile piece with the scarf detailing and fringed ribbons, and the additional judo belt adds an elegant touch to a cosy piece.
Pretty in Punk
Autumn’s runways showed plenty of scope for punk style to enter our wardrobes, and whilst, as a 50+ lady, we won’t be donning more pins than Johnny Rotten, we’re certainly embracing darker hues! Wakeley’s gorgeous Midnight Silk Tulle Bardot Dress is effortlessly versatile; team this with Wakeley’s iconic Velvet and Gold Chunky Chain Necklace for a pretty punk look that looks oh-so stylish on a mature lady, or mix this with the Silver multi Chain Earrings for a more glamorous look. The chic bardot neckline emphasises shoulders (one of our best parts as we age!), the shirred waist nips you in and creates an hourglass shape, and the floaty skirt completes this timeless look perfect for your next event.
Spice is Nice
If you’re stuck on a colourway for autumn, look to nature for the perfect hue! Fall leaves instantly come to mind when we look at this gorgeous Spice Tie Belt Midi Satin Skirt, so we couldn’t resist adding this to our summer/autumn/winter must-haves list. This stylish midi skirt drops lower at the back, with a pretty contrasting hemline and stylish tassel belt to complete the look. Team this with a chic white blouse and heeled boots for a chic day-to-night look.
Sunshine Hues
Saffron yellow has become the new millennial pink over the past two years, and the fashion runways show no sign of the trend slowing down. This versatile colour is perfect for adding a pop of sunshine to your summer work look, and the hue blends effortlessly with autumn colourways at the same time. We just love the Saffron Fitted Shift Dress With Belt with it’s versatile design, perfect for work and cocktails with a simple change of jewellery or heels. This smart body-sculpting silhouette flatters the figure with the simple cape cap sleeves, narrow v neck and waist-enhancing judo belt (a favourite of Wakeley’s), and the knee-length design provides the ultimate desk-to-dinner appeal.
Dark Romance
Dark florals and patterns were big on this year’s fashion weeks, where dark prints took place on ladylike silhouettes for the perfect mix of femininity and androgyny. Wakeley’s Geo Paisley Printed Midi Dress encompasses the trend with two different colourways, and we can’t take our eyes off the Amethyst piece! The geo paisley print hints at the summer scarf trend, whilst the deep purple, autumn orange and teal pattern brings this dress neatly into autumn and winter for the ultimate evening look. The waist-cinching belt creates a flattering silhouette, whilst the zip neck adds your chosen level of modesty. With fringing, paisley and a floaty hemline, this dress adds a touch of eclecticism to a timeless piece.
