Our Closet Confidential PDF (a downloadable form) is a way of allowing you to create an inventory of your existing wardrobe for the season. By filling in the various sections, it will allow you to see CLEARLY what you already own; what is capable of being brought up to date for the current season and what purchases you may need to make to ensure existing pieces or outfits work for the new season. A list of your clothing also helps to clarify what you should be buying to top up and fill those gaps rather than buying duplicates of what you already own (something we ALL do when faced with too much choice in a shop).
For instance, by making a list of my skirts – via our Closet Confidential form – I was able to see that I did not actually need to buy any new ones (I realised I owned all the pencil and tulip skirts I needed for this autumn/winter – which should have been obvious when I looked at my skirts hanging up, but somehow wasn’t). I just needed to think about what tops and blouses and jackets to buy to make them ALL work better for me for autumn.
It is the way all professional image consultants work, and we show you how to do it for yourself. You can easily store the inventory on your PC or laptop, and update it for next autumn. You can also download a new one for the summer.
You can then take your Closet Confidential inventory with you when you go shopping, and – before you buy YET ANOTHER black jacket – you can instantly see what colour jacket might work better. Or, if you do buy black, you can buy a new shape or silhouette.
It really is quick and extraordinarily useful in helping you focus on what you really need in your wardrobe. It also helps you to decide what is worth putting away for the future, and what pieces are real orphans – unwanted and never to be worn again.
We have made the inventory easy to fill out, with separate sections for all your main autumn/winter clothing, together with columns for colour and brand to make each garment instantly identifiable. There is also a “keyword” column for those women who, like me, may own a ludicrous number of black jackets, including several by the same designer, necessitating some other way of reminding yourself of a specific jacket. The last column, headed “Wear/Store”, is designed to help you decide whether the garment is wearable (maybe with new accessories) for this season – and if not, is it a beautiful, well-made garment that deserves to be carefully stored for the future. If not, it is probably something to be recycled to the charity shop. In addition, there is a shopping list at the back so that you can note down any new pieces you need to complete your outfit. As we said, Closet Confidential helps you focus…

Notes to help you:
Either print the PDF and fill in the sections on the hard copy, OR save the PDF to your PC or laptop (hit “Save as” and save it in a personal file or on your desktop). If you then click on the arrow beside “tools” at the top of the PDF, you can fill in the inventory on your screen. When you have finished, save and print it out so you have a version to take when you go shopping. You can also update the inventory as you make new autumn purchases. It isn’t necessary to list every winter garment you own, but try to list all the pieces you will definitely wear, and all those you might be able to wear if only you could buy the right things to accompany them.
