As a rule, a skirt of the wrong length may hit the widest part of the calf and will be the least flattering so it is worth discovering your perfect skirt lengths.
This is how to find out: standing with bare legs in front of a long mirror, take a long piece of fabric (it could be a towel) and hold it in front of you as if it was an ankle-length skirt. Keeping one end firmly at your waist, slowly and gradually roll the fabric up. As you do so, you will see which midi length is the most flattering for your legs – just above the ankle, or just below the knee, or somewhere in-between. Ideally, get a friend or partner to help so they can measure the length from waist to “hem” of the midi. Write it down.
Then just keep rolling up the fabric/towel to see which knee length is the most flattering – just on, just above or just below the knee. You may need to repeat the rolling to spot the perfect hemlines. Then measure that length, from waist to “hem” and write it down, too. Be exact. These are your best skirt lengths. Keep them safe.
Midis are currently very on-trend but even when they cease to be current, knowing your perfect knee-length will be very useful.
