The newest category on SoSensational’s What’s Trending pages (more specifically What’s Trending for fashionable women over 50), is the go-to casual piece for NOW, the check shirt.
The check shirt we all need now, for the rest of the current autumn/winter season and, well, for all of 2017, is a bit boyish, a bit oversized and a bit reminiscent of a lumberjack shirt. But cut for a woman, obviously – we’re just borrowing it from the chaps!
We’re borrowing check shirts from the men because they are fun, warm (well, the brushed kind are) and easy to wear for every casual occasion, from popping down to the shops to going for a flat-white with the girls.
Pair a check shirt with jeans or jeggings; you could even pair a very long check shirt with leggings; wear it alone or over a jumper or a tee; or wear it long and layered under a jacket or a jumper.
To look extra chic, put the collar up and roll up the sleeves to just above the wrist or to the elbow, remembering that elbow-length sleeves make legs (yes, legs) look longer.
The perfect footwear is boots or trainers – but you already knew that!
The check shirt is, essentially a casual piece. And, TBH multi-colour checks and brushed fabric will always look very casual. However, if your check shirt is in monochrome you could always dress it up by doing the mid-century thing and tying the ends at your waist, then add heels or glamorous metallic brogues and statement earrings. You could certainly wear one for drinks out…
Cyndy loves a check shirt. Tell us if you do, too, and why?
