Karen Millen is a totally brilliant brand for the grown-up, fashion-savvy woman. It blends a high-fashion sensibility, with individuality, quality and a properly sophisticated vibe.
For Autumn/Winter 16, the Karen Millen design team combines all those attributes. With eclecticism and refinement (and a hint of playfulness), they have produced a collection of beautifully crafted clothing and accessories which Jan and Cyndy love.
Not every piece works for an older woman. But most pieces can certainly be styled to work for an older woman.
In outerwear, there are enveloping wrap coats with wide portrait collars, strictly-belted military styles or throw-over-anything cape-coats.
Naturally, the collection features plenty of dresses, too. The emphasis in the dress collection is on clever cutting and intricate detail and lots of sleeves! Look out for intriguing details such as pleated panels to draw the eye and flatter feminine curves; and for fabrics such as lace and ribbon appliqué as well as ruffles, frills and bows. There are plains and prints in a colour-palette of rich high-fashion tones of plum, damson, paprika, ginger and rust, as well as the perennials – black, blue and brown.
Jan loves this dress with its stunning digital print, long sleeves and near midi length. For work, style it with black Chelsea boots, black opaques and a black blazer or biker jacket. Then for weekends and going out, switch to flats and nude tights.
Cyndy loves the versatility of this dress! Wear it on it’s own when the weather is warm, or layer with a fine knit tee when it gets cooler. The neutral shade will work with any other colour. You could even dress it up with leopard print heels, or dress it down with leopard print trainers.
As you may have guessed, Jan loves a midi skirt. Style this tan faux-suede skirt with brown ankle boots and brown opaques plus a top and a cloth blazer or chunky cardi for work. Style it for weekends and going out with an embellished top or sweater and pretty flats.
This beauty in damson is officially a “jumper” but with its scalloped hem and sheer sleeves it is less a jumper and more a long-sleeve top. Jan loves it for both its shape and its rich colour and for its versatility. Team it with tailored separates for work, with jeans for weekends, and with palazzos or culottes for a perfectly on-trend going-out look.
Surely, the boot of the season; need we say more? These are high on Jan AND Cyndy’s lust lists. Style yours with tailored trousers, tailored culottes or midi pencil skirts (plus opaques) for work; with jeans for weekends; and with a midi-dress or midi-skirt for going out.
Jan loves the supple, roomy (Limited Edition) Regent bag, with its sturdy chain strap. As well as being stylish and gorgeously on-trend, it is really versatile: it is the perfect bag to style with tailored pieces for work and with slightly more casual pieces for weekends.
As the weather starts to turn, what better transitional piece to see you through to winter than this gorgeous coatigan?! Wear it over your favourite smart black trousers at work, and team it with comfy jeans and ankle boots for the perfect weekend-chic look.
There’s always that one jumper that you can rely on all through the winter season… Cyndy think this might be hers! Team it with leggings or jeggings for a relaxed look or some capri trousers and heels for work.
This shirt is just so elegant! Looks great with a pair of wide leg jeans, and will be a fabulous focus under a plain navy suit or trouser suit. Because the neckline is low, the pussybow tie will look equally great on small or larger busts!
Cyndy doesn’t usually opt for a matching set of jewellery, but in this case, was prepared to make an exception! The Bracelet is great to wear during the day, and you can add the earrings for a stand-out evening look.
