We often stress the benefits of a capsule wardrobe and wardrobe clear outs, but we have to admit it is easier said than done.
Most people tackle their wardrobe by pulling everything out, sorting through things for hours and once done, it feels like it was such a mammoth task you never want to do it again.
So we jumped for joy when Vestiaire Collective launched their The Ultimate Wardrobe Detox Guide, finally a simple and effective way to clear out your wardrobe.
The guide talks you through the principles of practical minimalism for your wardrobe, which is basically keeping the pieces you love, throwing away those that no longer express your style as well as those horrid sale buys and creating space in your wardrobe. But it also has some amazing hints to declutter your life – such a single tasking to make you uber efficient. The idea behind this being your morning ‘getting ready’ time is precious and having an uncluttered wardrobe is going to save you time as well as making getting dressed a stress free process.
There is a 10 step closet detox, which is a great mini guide, and we love that as you create your get rid pile you can handily sell them on vestiairecollective.com as you go, and there is a step by step walkthrough to selling with them in 3 easy steps.
The closet detox cheat sheet is amazing, we have all tried it and it is fool proof. Plus we think it is great that Vestiaire understands that we all love a quick fix. Our other favourite part of the guide is the “how to build a perfect wardrobe” piece, that breaks your wardrobe down into three key areas to allow you to arrange and purchase accordingly.
We have to admit this guide is genius, and with A/W collections hitting the stores already there is no time like the present to give your wardrobe the detox it and you deserve.

Most of us have a closet full of outfits and these not only include the stipulated one new dress for each day of the month but many that have fallen off the radar but are still there owing to the sentiment attached to them. And the fact that you still feel good wearing them, once in a while.
“One dress for each day of the month”? Goodness, Ankit, I’d never have any room for anything else! When I was an image consultant, detoxing wardrobes was my favourite part of the job. But never, ever recommended anybody part with anything they were sentimentally attached to. But detoxing is very theraputic. The wardrobes I detoxed went from a one tiny wardrobe belonging to a student to 2 rooms full of wardrobes belonging to a wealthy lady who just had a lot of clothes! Everyone benefited though, and if you can make some money on the clothes you aren’t going to wear any more, why not? The only thing I would do is to consider parting with them if you haven’t worn them for 2 years, rather than one. And an easy way to do this is to get all your clothes with the hangers turned the other way around to normal. Then you’ll easily be able to see whether you’re wearing them or not!
