Getting Ahead In The Sales – 2015

December 24, 2015

The sales can be a minefield. While it is a very appealing idea to pick up some great seasonal purchases to see you through January and February. In order for your wardrobe (and your bank account) to really benefit from those discounted purchases, they need to work for next season and subsequent seasons.

So here is a handy list of what to look out for in the sales to give your wardrobe an update for S/S16 and beyond.

1 – SUEDE

The 70s has been a major trend for a few seasons now, and the upcoming S/S16 season sees suede going back to the top of everyone’s lust list. These are true investment pieces that should transcend seasons, especially if you stick to clean lines and simple shapes. This zip through suede jacket and suede trench from M&S are exactly what we are talking about.

2 – VICTORIANA

Keep an eye out for Ruffles and Floral prints in the sales. Try where possible to focus on pastels and paler jewel tones. For a truly on-trend piece this Limited Collection shirt is a must have!

Or, if you want a subtle take on the trend, this Karen Millen maxi is stunning.

3 – PLEATS

Pleats are big for Spring. Look out for fine sunray pleats in the sales (apart from any other consideration, they are most flattering), the finer the better for Spring 2016. For gorgeous dresses head to Karen Millen who have nailed the trend, and the sales have some real investment pieces

Or get some great pleat sale bargains at House of Fraser with perfectly pleated day wear.

4 – ORANGE

Cyndy is thrilled because bright orange is again the colour for Spring – particularly as an accent colour. So, as you browse the online sales keep an eye out for this vibrant shade as it is a guaranteed way to add some life to your wardrobe for S/S16. Wearing this colour top-to-toe is only for the seriously brave (and Cyndy). For everyone else, style it with neutrals to keep focus on your stand-out piece. And do ignore the word“mini” on the gorgeous L.K. Bennett skirt – it would only actually be mini if you were over 6 foot tall and even then not so much…

5 – DENIM

We all love denim, it is super-versatile and is really a classic when worn with crisp, white cotton. The sales is the perfect place to get some new denim for your wardrobe. However, to be perfectly on trend for S/S2016 ensure you make your sale purchases lightweight, soft denim to give it that spring/summer feel.

Finally, when shopping the sales, don’t forget to look ahead to autumn/winter 2016. After all coats, boots and bags are true investment pieces and if you can pick up a bargain this season that will hold over to next winter then why not. For coats think classic cuts and colours. For boots, you need look no further than the LBB (Little Black Boot), and for bags ignore distinctive hardware/trims and then really splurge.
