Jeans style tips
- If you are carrying any excess flesh, don’t wear jeans that are too tight. It is a sad fact of life for women over 50 (and, indeed, for a woman of any age with the body of a woman, i.e. with curves and a bit of flesh) that tight jeans just push the flesh somewhere, so buy the size that fits properly and won’t give you a muffin-top.
- If finding great jeans that fit well is not proving easy, consider buying a pair of jeggings. Jeggings look like jeans but are easier to wear. They are especially useful if you are layering so the top of your jeans won’t show, anyway.
- Almost any colour of denim will integrate well in your wardrobe – surely that is part of its universal appeal. If, like Jan, you wear a lot of black, consider buying black jeans as they then lend themselves to more outfits including dressier outfits.
- If your jeans slip down, wear a belt rather than constantly hoicking them up. Those with an Hourglass body type should always wear a belt on jeans even if jeans don’t slip down, because waistline definition is crucial.
- If you are curvy, tuck your top or shirt inside your jeans to give yourself a waistline. If short waisted, wear a belt that matches your top.
- If you are curvy, you can use this trick to make yourself look instantly slimmer in jeans: tuck jeans into boots. Another footwear trick is to pair flared jeans with platform-sole shoes, or to pair your jeans with shoes or boots that have heels.
- To avoid the dreaded muffin-top effect, do the following: if your waist and top hip are slim and toned, wear jeans with a low rise; if you carry weight on your top hip and/or on your bottom, choose a regular /mid-rise or a high rise/high-waist.
