Every year brings a new crop of weddings – and how lovely is that… (and that, by the way, is a statement, not a question – it definitely is lovely!)
So, if it is your turn this year, if your daughter or your son is getting married, that means a dress or an outfit. And a dress or an outfit in which you will look fabulous and in which you will feel comfortable.
Wanting to look fabulous is a given. You are the Mother of the Bride or the Mother of the Groom, after all, and you will feature in lots of photos and the video.
But feeling comfortable is also important because if you don’t feel comfortable it will show on your face, in the half-happy expression on your face. And feeling comfortable is about two areas: physical comfort (nothing pulling, pinching or chafing) and emotional comfort (not stepping too far from your comfort zone to fit with someone else’s idea of what a Mother-of-the-Bride or a Mother-of-the-Groom should wear).
Because Mothers of the Bride and Mothers of the Groom come in different ages, sizes and styles, and because weddings vary (they may be afternoon tea or a dinner-dance), we have pulled together a selection of gorgeous outfits from our favourite brands to help you pick the one that is perfect for you…

I could have done with this last year when our eldest son was getting married. Oh and thank you for saying Mother of the bride/groom. Everywhere I looked on line it said Mother of the bride. Not Mother of the bride/groom. I felt totally left out.
Great advice and I dressed my way, not anyone else! I am a little maverick or eccentric as our eldest calls me. I wasn’t OTT however I dressed elegantly the way I wanted to and was comfortable.
I love the M & S outfit with the top and skirt! Love the colours. I love my colours
