Arlene Phillips, yet another CBE to feature in SoSensational’s Celebrity Style Steal, is 73 – and yet another great example of looking sensational past your 50s…
Starting out as a dancer, Manchester-born Arlene Phillips was for a long time best-known as a choreographer for numerous West End and Broadway musicals; films and TV shows.
Feisty and fabulous, she became a household name after appearing as a judge on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing. She was later dropped from the show, amid allegations of ageism, but has since served as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance and in 2010, she made her first appearance as a panelist on ITV’s hugely popular daytime show Loose Women, where she has appeared on many occasions since.
At 1.6m, Arlene is not especially tall, but creates the illusion of more height by wearing one colour from neckline to hemline. Steal her style by doing the same. Choose a great lace dress in a terrific shade of navy and pair it with black opaques and black patent pumps (tights and shoes in the same colour is a clever trick to make legs look longer).
Arlene looks especially glamorous (and tall) in that long, sparkly dress. Note the long sleeves, which do not look like an afterthought to cover arms – which of course, they are not!
No helmet hair for Ms Phillips, though she adds a little height on the crown. She does a great smoky eye, of which we approve.
