Get Race Day Ready with these Winning Ideas…

You’re off to the races, and you plan to be a winner…

That is, you plan to be a winner in the fashion stakes even if not on the horses – though that would be good too!

We can’t help you spot a winning horse. But we can help you discover fabulous fashion and amazing headwear if you are heading off to Derby Day or Royal Ascot, or any other big, glamorous race meeting.

You don’t have to choose a crazy hat (or, for that matter, a crazy outfit) unless you want to be featured on the six o’clock news or on the front page of the tabloids… And, TBH, we aren’t able to help you with that!  We are here to help you look fabulous and feel comfortable (you need to be in your outfit from breakfast to early evening after all, so feeling comfortable is far better than feeling uncomfortable).  And we are definitely here to help you get on the best-dressed lists by virtue of your gorgeous, show-stopping outfit!

So, here are some stunning outfit ideas that will be perfect (and perfectly on-trend and appropriate) for a race meeting. This season, we love a ladylike vibe as seen in on-the-knee and midi dresses, and we love volume and we love how they collide when a ladylike dress goes under an oversized coat AKA a duster coat.

We feel sure that if you have tickets for any day of the Royal Ascot Meet, you are fully up to speed on the rules, but in case not, do take a look here to discover the rules

Of course Ascot wouldn’t be Ascot without a show-stopping hat, so here are a few stunning headwear suggestions (and handbags and other accessories) which you, a chic woman over 50, will want to wear for a Day at the Races. And if you need any tips on choosing the right hat shape, do take a look at our advice on finding the right hat for your face shape.

As we said, earlier, we are loving volume this season, and nothing says volume as well as a duster coat. The best thing about a duster coat (beyond it being perfectly on-trend and a truly great cover-up if the English weather behaves, well, like the English weather) is that your duster coat will look immeasurably gorgeous and Occasion-appropriate over a pretty frock for Race Day, but it can also be worn over jeans and a tee to transform them into a Goldilocks lunch-party outfit (not too dressy, not too casual, but just right!).
