If you regularly take a look at SoSensational, you will have noticed that Joseph is one of our favourite brands.
We wrote a few months ago about the origins of the brand, and its founder, Joseph Ettedgui who moved from Morocco to London, where he created his shops and became a leading tastemaker.
As Spring approaches, we wanted to take another look at the Joseph Spring Summer collection. As always, this is a collection that updates itself each season rather than sending us off in totally new directions; it recreates and polishes those essentials that we know and love, ensuring our wardrobe is both modern and timeless. This season those updates take shape in delicate knotted details – a wrap skirt is updated with a relaxed tie fastening, soft ribbed sweaters and blouses are gently knotted at the waist or cuff – creating luxe, covetable essentials.
Jan has her eye fixed firmly on two of these pieces, the silk pinstriped Fran skirt and the same shape skirt in a soft grey metallic twill:
She sees them as the foundations pieces of her Spring Summer wardrobe; the skirt is sophisticated and elegant with a modern twist and she can pair it with various tops, including a knot jersey tee
Or a fine-knit rib tee – for contrasting textural appeal
Or with the Stretch Rib Drape Top, or just a simple vest. The Joseph debardeurs top offers a flattering silhouette
For cooler evenings, the grey metallic twill Doka jacket or the crinkle-gauze Okda jacket in black would provide the perfect cover-up. Perfectly on trend, the blazers offer a sleek, elegant look that works well for day-to-evening dressing.
Meanwhile, Cyndy is coveting the butter leather Silvie skirt in a vibrant summer yellow. However, for the more practical amongst us (sorry Cyndy!) the skirt also comes in black. In super soft leather, it provides a modern alternative to your mid-length leather skirt – knotted and tied as desired. For the more daring, the skirt can be paired with a co-ordinating twisted leather bustier for evenings. For a more refined look, pair it with the beautiful navy Savoy blazer in a wool/silk blend – the perfect Spring outfit for the chic over-50 woman.
The rest of the Joseph Spring Summer ’16 collection is equally covetable, especially for the stylish older woman: skirts and trousers are inspired by the cut of a traditional man’s trouser, infused with a sophisticated slouch, yet perfectly tailored to fit and flatter the body. Masculine blazers are updated with a feminine twist; classic poplin shirts are updated in fine silk with added bow details for femininity. Asymmetric tops sit low on the hip; mid length and floor sweeping skirts are pleated and cut from light, loose fabrics for added movement and volume. As always with Joseph, fabrics are super luxe: leather and nubuck, silk and satin, super-soft jersey and light cotton poplin, all in a tonal palette of neutrals and its signature monochrome to give the pieces genuine versatility and co-ordinated ease.
