Back in 2009, when Jan and I started SoSensational, the original company name was 60&Sensational. Jan was nearly 60, I was 62 and neither of us had a problem with our age.
However, it transpired we were in a very small minority. Others of our age group just weren’t ready to embrace our age; hence the name change to SoSensational.
Now it’s all changed. Magazines and the press are full of stories of old(er) age women who started businesses in their 50s and 60s or have done something amazing or life affirming, like learning to ride a bicycle or joining a running club. And that’s brilliant. “Applause, applause” for all grown up women who still feel 30 inside and are not letting a few extra birthdays get in the way of what they’d like to do!
But do our GLOWS shop differently now? Yes, we know they do. Our site visitors look for dresses with sleeves, clothes that don’t fit so tightly and for hemlines that cover knees.
But the big question that was discussed this week at SoSensational Towers? Would women aged over 50 wear a bikini?
OK, it’s not earth shattering but we’d really like to know! Because Jan and I differ on this point – Jan says yes, I say no (unless one looks like Helen Mirren in a bikini), and we’d love to know what you think. Do you still wear a bikini? Do you have any thoughts on whether one should or shouldn’t be wearing a bikini in old(er) age? When was the last time you wore a bikini? Come on, lovely readers, be brave, tell us what you think below!
