Find your Celebrity Style inspiration with Tina Turner
If you regularly visit SoSensational, you may be familiar with our Celebrity Style Steal feature. We check out celebrities who are over 50 and looking fabulous to borrow some of their style tricks and ideas.
Most of the celebrities are in their 50s. A few are in their 60s. But sometimes (and more and more often these days) the celebrity will be someone in her 70s, or even in her 80s, such as Mary Berry.
Right now, the woman we can borrow some style from is 77-year-old Tina Turner.
The life-story of this iconic and legendary rock star has been turned into a West End Musical, Tina which has just had its world premiere at London’s Aldwych Theatre. Following its great reviews, it is likely to be playing there for quite some time.
If you’ve ever read anything about Tina Turner, you’ll know how she rose from humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee to become the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
The hit show tells the story of this black woman who defied the bounds of gender and race to become a legendary rock star – and one of the world’s all-time best-selling singers. To quote the show publicity, “Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them.”
So now we are taking a look at the fashion rules that she follows (or breaks).
Despite her powerhouse personality and big voice, Tina Turner is surprisingly quite petite, at 1.63m (5 feet 3½ ins).
Like many other petites, such as Lulu, Tina knows clever and simple ways to create the illusion of greater height.
For the musical’s premiere, she employed one of these – wearing one colour from neck to ankle. She looked stunning wearing a black tuxedo trouser suit which we love.
We’ve found this version, from Reiss, and paired it with a black bodysuit (remember those?) to keep everything neatly tucked-in. For a bit of sparkle, we would also add statement earrings, as rocked by Emma Thompson in our Style Steal.
What do you think of Tina’s style?
